As far as I can see he has a few domains that he wants to point at the same site. A 301 redirect on those domains to the main site will push all human traffic to the main site and will also tell a SE that it too should look elsewhere for the content it is trying to find. As a bonus, when it finds the new domain, it is being asked to transfer any page or trust rank it holds against the domain it was originally looking for, to the new one.

Correct - All he is trying to do is block a few pages from being indexed so a meta tag will do that.

I completely agree, a META tag will do that. However, if there is any PR or TR associated with the domains he is ommiting from the index then it is all going to waste.

I would check to see if the domains you dont want to be indexed hold any value at all, if they do, use a 301 redirect so as not to waste that value.

If they have no value by all means a META tag addition will suffice.

I would never use a 301 redirect as well as a noindex tag for exactly that reason. I would use a 301 redirect only.

Right, I think we are in agreement. Place a noindex tag anywhere you dont want indexing and you will be fine in terms of duplicate content as these pages will be ignored.

To put an end to what I was harping on about...

The domains that you want to keep alive but use to bounce users to the main site, do they have any good PageRank? How old are they? How many inbound links do they have etc?

They are new domains, they were only created for marketing purposes so have no inbound links or PR.

Update.
I've looked at the server response via a header checker and as it's currently configured on my hosting, I'm getting a 302 back. I'm unsure of the syntax in .htaccess to move a specific domain as the source part of the redirect doesn't include any domain references, just the page references.

Do I have to create seperate directories in my web space and create a .htaccess in each one for every domain I want to redirect?

I've also got www.homeautomation-direct.co.uk and both the .com and .co.uk seem to be in google's index, which is not what I want!
