    Importing custom variables

Apologies if this query has been covered in another thread - I've had a look and can't see a relevant thread - so I'm sure it's just something I'm doing wrong!
We're using 9.0.2 in Designer and Client versions and we are trying to import hierarchical data which has custom variables in it. I have already defined the custom variables ('Size' and 'Material') via the Design>Library>Variables in my Designer version.
The Client version of the software seems to be able to import the hierarchical data successfully and we see blue ticks against Size and Material variables in the Import Wizard. However, when the import routine is complete, we see all the products as expected, but the Size and Material variables do not appear on the Prooduct Details screen and are not visible when you preview or publish the store.
I'm pretty sure I must be missing something either on the import routine or in terms of telling Actinic what to display. Any ideas, please?

Are thx custom variable set up in the client version?
I would imagine these fields will only import if the variable exists already.
    Does it?

Well, I'm not sure; which sounds pathetic I know. But in the Client version, there isn't the 'Design' tab and therefore the Library displaying the Variables does not seem to be visible.
When I had established the Custom Variables, I took a Snapshot of the site on my PC and sent it to the client. They imported the Snapshot and therefore, I'm pretty sure the Variables of Size and Material would have been imported too. And of course, they were and still are visible in the mapping part of the Import Wizard, so they must have been.

What's the scope of the variables?
If they are product scoped then they should be available on the tab you configured when creating the variables. Can these be seen on the Client?

You can also open ActinicCatalog.mdb in Access and look in the table: Variable, field: sName for them (probably near the end of that table).

            Thanks for the expert input!
The custom variables are Product level, but if I understand you correctly, they are not visible on the Client side at all. However, when you run the Import Wizard, the Variables are recognised.
I'm going to have a look on the Access database later this morning; thanks for the suggestion.

I've checked the Access database, the Custom Variables are there . . .
