How to created an invoice payment page

I have a page on my current cart that lets customers pay me any amount they choose - I use it for split payments of deposits and final payments plus any other custom built stuff. SO I need an item were the customer can enter the payment value.

This is often done by creating a product each for pounds and pennies.

I have a product set at 1 pence and the customer just enters the amount to the quantity box, see here

Works very well for us and is hidden away so that we direct customers to it when needed.
