Coupons & Discounts

I have coupon codes where you enter "XXX" to entitle 10% discount.
I also have a site 10% discount if you spend 'x' amount.

Customers are currently able to purchase and get both discounts which I do not want to happen - i want them to get one or the other.

Is this possible - how do I get around it ??

Perhaps create an order level discount that requires a coupon code that has a trigger of say 0 for 10% discount and also has another trigger of x amount giving 0%. Your non coupon discount of 10% could then just have a trigger of x amount.

That would in effect be:
Coupon discount: value of 0 to x amount with discount of 10% which drops to zero when above x amount
Non Coupon discount: from x amount with 10% discount
