    Problem compacting database

    Hello,

I have tried compacting my database, and get the following error:

"There was a problem compacting the database ........Sites\Site1\ActinicCatalog.mdb with the database ........Sites\Site1\tempActinicCatalog.mdb

the reported error was: Driver's ConfigDSN, ConfigDriver, or ConfigTranslator failed.
Please use Explorer to investigate the problem"

I've no idea what this means, so would really appreciate any help.

    Thanks

If you have a good backup system in place then f(rom a search on Google) this which is worth trying:
    register odbcconf.dll (running "regsvr32 odbcconf.dll" at c:\windows\system32

    Go to Start|Run and type:
    regsvr32 odbcconf.dll

    Reboot then try compacting.

Otherwise you could try top repair and compact in AS Access.

        Hello,

        Thank you for your replies.

I have a snapshot from yesterday - is this what you mean by a good backup system? If so, I will try your suggestion, thanks.

I have repaired and compacted by going in to the database via the site1 file - it worked fine, but did not get rid of this problem.

Re the suggestion about importing the snapshot - I have not compacted the database for a while, so don't think that would help.

        thanks again

Location of site1 folder - could this be the problem?

Is it possible that the problem is being caused by the location of my site1 folder?

Due to PC problems, I had to temporarily move everything to a different PC, and when I did found that I had a site1 folder in "my documents", which is where it usually is, and another in my shared documents folder. It is the one in the shared documents folder which is being used.

            Hi Rosalyn,

It's possible if you have moved it that the DSN to the database has become corrupt. You could try the following:

            - close Actinic
            - open your 'Control Panel'
            - double-click on 'Administrative Tools'
            - double-click on 'Data Sources (ODBC)
            - on the 'User DSN' tab highlight the 'ActinicCatalog8' option under the 'Name' column
            - click on 'Configure'
            - make sure that the 'database' is pointing to the correct path
            - click 'Select' to change it if it's wrong
            - apply any changes and then open Actinic and try compacting the database again.

                  Thanks Tracey.

I am using a temporary PC at the moment, and going back to the usual one at the end of the week - everything on that is freshly re-installed, so I am hoping that when I import the snapshot, it will work OK!! I'll let you know.

I transferred everything to the "new" PC, and all is now fine.
