    Care Instructions For Plants

    Hello Folks,

First of all thanks for all putting so much work into this community. I'm building my first store and this board has been invaluable!

I've got a bit of a funny question with regards to how to set up some extra information for the products in the store. My friend (and now client) is setting up a business selling posh plants and I'm doing her site for her. She's only going to ever have a handful of seasonal plants for sale and wants to be able to give plant specific care instructions. Easy I though - extended information.

However she wants to be able to keep the care instructions live on the site after the plant itself is no longer available, having a specific page where you can go and browse all the care instructions for all the plants that she's ever sold.

I'm scratching my puny little brain out as to how to do this and have searched high and low for anyone who's had a similar issue but to no avail. I wondered if any of you had any bright ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help,

    John

Use the extended info page or better still use something like the 'tabber' off drillpine.biz as that is perfect for that kind of thing, while the plant is in stock. Once the plant goes out of stock, hows about a central brochure page with a link to a PDF or the text for each plant, you could even have this in place for present plants. An alpha listing on plant name would be great to help find your plant.

Could you not have a brouchure page entitled Caring for your Plants and add fragments for each species of plant as and when, you could then add in an image in each section and a link to the plant if it is still available to purchase at the same time as a link from the plant to the fragment.

A brochure page called "Care Instructions". Copy / Paste the Extended text into a new Fragment there before you retire a product.

          Folks,

First of all thank you all for your quick replies. Really useful for a numpty like me.

I've decided to go a slighlty different route from the brochure page ideas suggested due to the way the client wants her design implemented - i.e. she wants a single page with an overview where you can access all the care instructions and then direct links from product pages to the individual specific instructions.

Couldn't see how I could get this to work using a brochure setup (and didn't want to bother you lot) so I've created products for each of the care instructions (I'm using SPP) and this, combined with splitting the product list into sections seems to work. i then just pop a link into the plant description (tried, with no luck, to link them via related product) and bob's your uncle. Probably a really clunky way of doing it but works in my noob head.

In case you're interested this is what it looks like. And the links from the product pages are like this.

Thanks again for your suggestions. This really is one of the best communities I've come across on the web!

          All the best,

          John
