slow invoice printing & slow email sending

    Hi

Can any help with 2 problems we have with V9.0.2.0.0.0 IFZA.

    **Problem 1**

Data entries print quick as they always have.

    Invoices now print very slow.

We just recently cleared out 2 years worth of orders and now only have 3 months in completed and compacted that database etc

    *Problem 2*

Also recently the shipping confirmation email sends very slowly (been doing this for over 4-5 months now) although it used to be very quick

We use 1and1 for our hosting and email server

    auth.smtp.oneandone.co.uk

we have not chanegd this setting for years

On the slow printing issue we did have a snap shot in with Actinic for another issue sometime ago and I asked if they could take a look at the slow invoice printing.

They agreed that priniting was slow but they have never come back to me since.

    Thanks for reading

    Simon

I use 1and1 and my emails take about 5 seconds each. I don't know if you are classing this as slow?

I just checked this on V6, V8 and V9 and for me emails only take about 1 second to go. This is with 1and1 professional.

I don't think I've ever seen it as slow as 5 seconds. Very rarely it might pause for 2-3 seconds before going but I haven't seen that in a long time.

        Anit-Virus or Firewalls!

They can slow down e-mails ALOT, as they have to scan every e-mail before they send. Depending on the Speed of your computer the scan can take a few seconds to do that.

Also if you have some kind of e-mail protection from 1&1 that may slow down sending aswell.

In this case it's unlikely to be anti-virus as Actinic doesn't send them as an email from the PC. It transfers them to the scripts on the web server and sends them out from there.

          This is a strange one.

Does this happen with just a single email or when you are sending quite a lot in succession?
            Perhaps 1and1 are throttling them.

Ah, in that case i would suggest it's an Issue with 1&1 they may be scaning e-mails their end. 1&1 do have a large userbase, and may need to upgrade their email servers, just a guess though, i would send their support team an e-mail though just to check.

                Very Slow To Print Invoices

I too have the same problem. The packing list prints in less than 1 second but the invoice holds there for at least 5 seconds, or more, before it prints. Definately Actinic is causing the problem. I have no idea why it is holding for so long but it is taking us much too long to process orders now with this V9. Not happy.

                  me too

I also have the same problem, we never used to, but recently we have taken on a new ISP and we use a dual router with their own firewall on it.

When they first did it we kept getting the notification Actinic cannot locate the Syncronisation server. We had to switch the hardware back to its original location and then set up single user mode.

They created a rule for us for Actinic and we could then re-set up Multi User, but since then printing is taking ages.

I have no idea if this is linked to why printing is now taking so long, but thought I'd share this, in case it makes any sense as to why this might be.
Okay, I pulled the pin. Now what?... Wait!...Where are you going?

I've had this issue since we moved to V9- it was immediately noticeable. Invoices (and packing lists) now hang for around 5 seconds before printing to a local printer- all other (non Actinic) programs print immediately. We've just learned to live with it, but it is a bit of a pain. I've not noted any speed issues with e-mails however. Currently we're still on V9.01 as we're having a problem with 9.03 not compacting databases, but I'm hoping that perhaps 9.03 will solve the problem.

                      Invoice - Sloooow Print

Just for the record we are running V9.03. Also we have the printer attached directly to the PC. All other print jobs are instant. It's simply SUPER SLOW when Actinic is asked to print any invoice. 5+ seconds doesn't sound much but you are stuck waiting (unable to do anything) until the print command is completed. When you have a few dozens orders to process each day, that extra time adds up !!! It's got to be a glitch in the software somewhere.

                        very slow invoice printing

I can add my slow invoice printing since moving to 902 then to 903, Actinic hangs for 10 seconds before printing starts (so for those who hang for only 5, I am jealous), very frustrating.

                          9 seconds....

ok, just counted, to be sure, it's not 5 seconds, it's more like 9 !!! even worse than we thought !!!

I've just timed my V9.03 with only three demo orders on it and can confirm that the invoice is taking 7-9 seconds before it starts to print.

By comparison, my live V6 is only taking 2-3 seconds and is acceptable.

I find it hard to believe the invoice report is much more complex in V9 than V6 which suggests there might be something else at play here.

If you print the same invoice a second time is there a long delay as well? I ask because Actinic carries out preprocessing on tax fields in all versions before printing but in V9 it also sets the tax point date and invoice number for the invoice when you first print the invoice.

If you switch off the tax point / invoice number options, does it print more quickly?
