    Apply Attributes

After trying yesterday to put colours and prices onto a componant to find it cant do 2 things at the same time, I was wondering if it is possible to add a text box for the customer to fill in at the time of order to state they colour of the item needed?

I have a roduct that has 13 differant colours and 6 differant sizes, but the price only changes on the size not colour, so I was thinking that it might be easier to list the colours in the item description and have the drop down menu with the sizes and prices, plus a box for the customer to input there desired colour.

Hope this makes sense, and hope its possible.

    Thanks for any help offered.

not sure, but think this is how it works...

Right click your product and select 'New Attribute', call it Colour, then click Apply. The new attribute should show underneath your product.

Then right click your new attribute, and click 'New Choice'. Enter each of your 13 colours as choices and voila. Think the default setting is a drop down box, but it may be possible to change it to radio buttons or whatever...

you can have 2 attributes for a product, so a customer can choose both size and colour.

Create component, create 2 attributes within it (size, colour) add choices to each one

go back to component, permutations, fill list, amend prices

do forget to set pricing structure on the product

Hi that is working as such, but I was wondering if it can be done without a massive drop down list, and just a seperate list for the colour and 1 for the size?

now you need to tell us what you have tried

include screen images of your content tree so we can see how you've done your components and attritubes

My guess (and it's only a guess because you haven't told us) is you have a component, 2 attributes (with choices) and you have 'drop down permutation list' as your component layout.
As you said, this doesn't work.
So you did 'something' (maybe you'll tell us what?) to get it to work (or, most likely, not display the error) and saw that it appeared to work offline. However it still doesn't online because you can't use that layout with 2 attributes.

So, change your Component Layout to 'standard component layout' and change your Attribute Layouts to 'Standard Drop Down Layout'
That will give you 2 dropdowns. One for each attribute.

Ensure your permutations are filled in with prices (permutation tab of the component) and all should work fine.

The only thing you will need to do then will be to detail the prices somewhere visible for the customer so they can see, before having to add to the cart, how much they will be.

Either list it in the product description or type the price in manually alongside the sizes choices so they appear in your dropdown.

                        That should work.
