PSP Question

Hi

I'm just investigating how to choose a PSP for my sites and I wondered if anyone can tell me what happens if the card being used is fraudulent. Would the PSP reject it or is it still possible that it will be accepted, goods dispatched and 3 months later the PSP debits my account because it has just found out that the card was fraudulent (as has just happened locally with a shopkeeper).

This is possible - as cards can still be cloned.

However, with 3D Secure, verified by Visa etc etc, online security for credit card transactions is getting tighter almost by the day.

It is safer, imho, using a credit card online than it is in my local garage to pay for my petrol.

You will also get a fraud shield in may virtual termials that you can turn up so high that almost nobody can get through

Just had my Gold card cloned.
Picked up by HSBC fraud because the thief had tried to purchase a holiday and had got tripped up by "Verified by Visa".

Actinic Payments was demonstrated at the conference last Friday, which has a neat little feature.

You can set it it to warn you if the address doesn't match or automatically deny the customer from ever placing the order.

If you're running V9 then it fully intergrates into Actinic, looked very neat and user friendly.

It seems to be quite competative on price and you only have one point of contact if something goes aray with your payments.

As I posted in your other thread I am converting all my clients sites to use Actinic Payments as it offers the most integrated solution there is.

Thanks guys - as mentioned to Mal on another thread, still using V7 on a couple of shops so can't use the Actinic Payments. Has anyone had any problems using Paypal (would probably opt for the basic Paypal)? I understand it can be integrated into Actinic - any problems envisaged in just using Paypal to collect all my payments? How about fraudulent payments with Paypal? A lot to contemplate here before making up my mind.

for v7 use protx, worldpay, hsbc or secpay

paypal pro does not use 3d secure. ordinary pp is ok, but as a shop keeper you have little control over disputes

can you explain Mal? is this similar to WP and protx offering paypal within their scope? whats the advantage? I thought CB posted awhile ago to say PP was best left as an indepentant payment method

tbh I would upgrade rather than use v7 as it's no longer supported and well left behind. You would make up the cost of upgrading pretty quickly with increased sales.

OK - if I upgrade to V9 I can then use Actinic Payments to process my orders - how does that work? How about fraud checking and chargebacks? At the moment we are getting quite a few orders from people using duff cards and we are having to refuse them (obviously) and are wary of PSP's charging us back for duff orders a few months down the line (which does happen).

Are those of you using Paypal plus another PSP doing so in order to attract customers with Paypal accounts otherwise why use 2 PSP's when, say, Paypal could do it all?
