We made some significant changes between the first and second betas. So we want to allow a few days for feedback from beta testers, and we want our own QA team to complete a thorough testing regime on the new version. We are putting 100% of our QA resource into this ATM. If all is well, production release will be in about a week.

Because it is v9, but a beta version, it kinda like what you written before hand

so must be loaded on a non operational computer system
That really is the answer when installing ANY beta software. Beta software are there for customer/clients to test out, but shouldn't be used for production mode.

Yes but to test MU you need a network, and most of us poor customers do not have a spare network system laying around doing nothing, and if you are asking us to take our online systems down to install a beta and then reload the online system you are taking the pixx

If you release all beta so that they can work alongside the online systems then you will probably get a much better takup of beta testers who could try everything in maybe the beta in test mode above the online system

we do know you dont use beta operationaly just for testing

                    Hi Chris,

I see what you are saying, and can see why you are asking for it, however one other thing, is that even if it was on a different folder, you couldn't use both beta and production software side by side, as again, they are the same software, so you will get the message saying "Catalog is already running", or it showing you v9.

What you are asking would be basically restructuring the whole program from application to installer to be a separate program

However I was post it as a wishlist item for you

                    Kind Regards

Is it really that difficult, I can run one copy of V7, one of V8 and one of V9 all at the same time. What is the difference between that and two versions of V9 running from two different folders?

Not Actinic specific, but If an application is self-contained, reside within its own folder & does not interfere with anything else, then it should be possible ............ provided both releases are not run simultaneously.

Nadeem - Assuming Actinic is a self-contained application, then surely, we should be able to install 9.0.3 within its own folder & test it to our hearts content on the same hardware/software configuration.

Or is it that we are taking a very cautious approach with V9.0.3.

v7, v8 and v9 are completely different structures, in terms of programs. You cannot have two version 9 running side by side, it has been mentioned before on the community to have this option, but alas when Actinic is opened, it uses an ODBC connection to the database, and having two v9 will still point to the one database connection, so only 1 database can be opened

Hope that make sense, Again having the ability to open different v9 on one machine side by side is a wishlist, and I will raise it for you

It is a pity this part, it would open up so many doors and get so many more testers. When you launch a new version, you clearly have a new odbc connection for that. Can we not have in essence a V10 connection added, which is in fact just the new V9 release testbed. You clearly can give us V10 on the same system, why not have the test versions called something different (pretend V10 for example) and almost as though it is released as a brand new version?
