    SSL Certificates

    Hi

We are looking to host on a dedicated server via webfusion but need an SSL certificate. Does anyone know how easy they are to install on a dedicated server?

    Thanks

    Hi,

I'm not a server administrator but a quick search brought up this website which may help.

I forget what thread its under but there is little reason now for SSL certification you should be considering using a Payment services provider like Protx, Worldpay etc as otherwsie you will not be able to comply with the new credit card protection rules, one of the benifits of these is that there is no need for SSL if you use a PSP

Doesn't that depend on whether you want to protect their name and address details?

I think many of us will have to go to ssl on the checkout pages, we have had a few who dropped out on checkout because they didn't want to put their details on unsecured (as they see it) pages. That is the ones we know about, ie those that have phoned up or emailed, why they think giving their details/card numbers over the phone is more secure is anyones guess.

              Hi

Thanks for the replys guys. The reason we want one is because we are going to be hosting on a dedicated server and in order to process payments on our site with protx, it says you need an SSL certificate.

The server doesn't come with one and so have been looking at verisign. Just not sure what we need exactly.

We have retained our SSL for exactly this reason even though we don't strictly need it.

Ours is with Geotrust. Cheap and cheerful, but does the job.

you dont need an SSL server for PROTX, only if your going to be using your payment pages capturing the credit card details and then passing these through to PROTX - Actinic does not work this way. For Standard intergation you do not require a SSL.

                    Thanks Darren

What protx product would you recommend?

tbh I would look at actinic payments rather than protx as it's far better integrated. All my clients with protx are moving to actinic payments.

You would want to use Protx VSP Form.

I agree with this especially for the moto and recharge functions. I currently have both until i am 100% with Actinic, im keeping it now til after xmas, the extra £46 for a couple of months gives me piece of mind if something go's wrong i have a back up.

AP works well and you can semi customise the payment pages. If you want to see, try www.kitesrus.co.uk go to the payment page and you can see what i mean. If you do customise you need to store you images and css on an ssl server to make sure it does not break the AP ssl, it does not have to be your own
