Quantity based discounts and digital downloads

When a customer wishes to activate a quantity based discount ie order 2 units and pay less, it will not work when a digital download is included.

In our case we are a health care company that offers a FREE digital download of a book with every unit but when the customer wants to purchase 2 units, they cannot.

Is there any way we can re-enable the quantity field on the product?

This problem occurs whether the download is referenced on the unit itself or on a component.

    I need a solution for actinic 7 and 9

    Hi,

I'm afraid that a product with a digital download attached will always only have an order quantity of 1 (stated in the help files). Your alternative would be to use the 'links' tab to allow the customer to download the file manually, as it is a free download it won't matter that they don't go through the checkout to get it.

      Hi Tracy,

thanks so much for your answer. Alas it does not help. The download is an incentive for purchase. We are giving a book for FREE only if they buy. If there was a way of providing this [link] on the customer email when they purchase a specific product that would also be an ok solution. Can this be done?

Or is there a pearl change i can make?

      thanks,

      Jonathan

You could add the link into the report description field of the product - it will then be printed on the invoice/packing list that you send with the goods.

Is this just for one product or lots of products? If just one or two products then another alternative would be to create a custom offline email maybe based on the 'order received' email and add the link to the file in that email, so when a customer orders that particular product you can send the custom email to them.

You can do this yourself in v7, v8and v9. (Don't know about earlier versions)

In v9 go to Settings (In v7 go to View) - Business Settings - Options tab and in the frame Product Descriptions in Reports check Enable Extended Product Description for Customer Reports and Apply. Now when highlighting a product you will see an additional tab has appear called Report Description. In that box you may type a short message and the URL.

Keep the Report Description field data as short as possible as it takes up space on the Invoice and Packing List. It will only become active after uploading the product again and then only on orders placed after that. Try it out to see how it looks on the Invoice and Packing List.

Thank you so much for this. I checked it out but on testing I can see its not the solution. We need the link to appear on the receipt. Is there anyway to do add a variable that takes the information at product level and appears on the receipt?
