Moving products from one computer to another

    Hi,

Im new to actinic and I wondered if anyone could help me!

We are setting up a new website, and have been listing products on two laptops. One has the main actinic software and the other has copy version of it.

Can anyone tell me how we can move the products from the copy version laptop to the main actinic file laptop???

I no it can be done! Im just not sure how!

There are various methods people use, to be honest i keep it simple.

I take a snapshot & import it onto the other pc.

    Are the designs different?

      Hi Darren

      Thanks for the reply,

We have split product categories up, so we both can get on with different sections of the same website.

So all we want to do now, is put it all together on the same laptop, before we upload it onto the website

If you have a mismatch of products between the two laptops then you will need to export the two catalogs and carefully merge them in Excel and reimport. You will need to understand hierarchical imports to so this.

so we both can get on with different sections of the same website
That makes it a bit trickier.

First make a Snapshot and back-up your entire site folder on both systems.

You'll have to choose a "master" system. This will probably be the one with the most up-to-date design.

Onto the master system copy all images that are used on products / sections, etc from the other machine. Keep the folder names and locations the same.

Now, on the secondary system, use File / Export to create a Hierarchical Export file. This file only contains product / section details, so won't alter the design on the main system.

Now, on the main system, use File / Import to import the file just created. Choose Update rather than Replace when in the wizard. The two sets of products / sections should now be merged.

            Hi,

            Thanks for all the replies.

Were not the master computer, I think that will be when we email it to our website designer.

All we have is two laptops, and want to link them so we can transfer the pics and products details to one of laptops. And THEN send it to our website designer who will have the master computer.

Sorry if I have confused anyone.

My post #5 above still applies if you want to merge products / sections from two systems onto one of them.

If you're now asking about how to get files between the two machines, use an USB memory stick.

What you do regarding the website deigner comes later.

                Hi Norman,

Thanks for your help, I very much appreciate it!!!

I can now get the products on the "training program emma" on the different laptop, and they show product details and prices, and pictures. Exactly as I want.

However I try and copy them into the "st8ment section" - which is to be our website section on actinic . And they just copy over the desciption and prices, but no pictures. I just highlight them all in the categories section, and then paste them in the st8ment " st8ment training program section". eveything is there but no pictures.

                Where am I going wrong?

                xxx

It sounds like you've succeeded in moving the products and their images onto the "main" system from the secondary.

You now sound like you're talking about a new and completely different problem - namely one with Copy / Paste of products from one section to another but images not transferring. Not one I can help with, sorry.

                  Someone else perhaps?

It may also be worth starting a new thread with a relevant title. This problem is no longer relevant to the title of this thread, so people who may be able to help with a copy / paste problem will be unaware that you have one.

                      Hi,

                      Thanks again for your replies.

I can speak to my designer tomorrow, but I was trying email him all our products today, so he can upload them onto the website early this week.

But I cant get half the pictures to show! so it seems I will have to wait until I can speak to him!

                      xx
