I've today had my first BFPO customer, who has pointed out that the address entry format in the store is not compatible with BFPO addresses. He had to put his actual country in the second line of the address, UK in the country field and his BFPO number in the postcode. Is there a better way to set things up for BFPO customers? I guess I also need to set up a shipping band for it too, although it seems the same as regular first class up to 2kg anyway.

We have BFPO set up as a country in the drop down field. I also have then set up a blank 'country' that is allocated to the bfpo postage band. So when we get a bfpo address i change the country to the blnak field and add bfpo before the number and all's hunky dory! Bit long winded but does the trick and get's the address in the right format. We get so few it works ok for us.Donna

Never had a problem with BFPO orders. The cost is either free or the same as normal local UK mail for the goods we shipped. The orders we received only show a UK country address not the actual country - and I think that is for security reasons. I don't think you'need the actual country of destination - that's known from the BFPO number.

You are actually only sending your parcels to a depot in North London, that's why the postage is the same as for anywhere else in the UK.
The military take over from there.
If you've got the country in the address, some idiot will use Air Mail in Smartstamp.......Paul

I'm confused now! I raised this with Royal Mail as we'd just added overseas delivery to our set-up and I was told BFPO addresses have to go as overseas packets - in fact there is a dropdown on the online (OBA) system in overseas packets called 'Forces'.
The RM website list the mail prices which are the same as standard first class http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/c...4&catId=400038 > So I suppose it depends on what your using for the rest of your mail - as for us this is dearer than our packetpost rates. Maybe that is why we have to keep them seperate?! Or have we just been misinformed?!!ActiveStock

From Royalmail.com
"The British Forces Post Office (BFPO) sets special postal rates and there is no charge at all for Forces Airletters (‘Blueys’) sent to personnel on operational duty. Shown below are the different postage rates for all the postal services offered for HM Forces Mail.
Remember, BFPO Airmail prices reflect the Royal Mail’s domestic tariffs, so the format (letter, large letter, packet) of the item sent affects the price."
See this page at Royal Mail and this one at BFPO for more details.
We send stuff BFPO all the time, to Op Telic and Herrick especially. It's very easy and straightforward.
