    Restricting Discounts?

I have some items on special offer (Sale Items) - not an unusual situation.

However, I also offer discount vouchers for specific time periods or customer groups or etc.. (again not unusual).

How do I prevent the vouchers from being used on the Sale Items since I can't afford to allow that additional level of dicount on already reduced prices?

Another way of expressing this could be to place a restriction on the voucher discount by excluding certain product groups e.g. Sale Items?

But I can't see a way of using implementing these types of restriction? Anybody already solved this problem - I can't believe no-one else has come across it before.

    Thanks,

    Laura

Put the discount against a product group and make sure that product group does not include the already reduced products.

As ever its in the help files

      Putting Products Into Groups

Actinic Business and Designer allow you to apply discounts on certain groups of products. For example, you may offer 'Buy one get one free' on CDs, or 'Three for the price of two' on books.
Information about creating discounts based on products selected is in Discounts Based On Products Ordered. Before you can apply this type of discount, however, you must inform Actinic about the groups of products in your store that you want to assign discounts to.
Go to 'Marketing | Product Groups'.

Guys, thanks for the the input. Sorry if I am not making myself clear enough.

I understand I can restrict the product level discounts to product groups. So say there are 2 product groups - one for Eligible Items and one for Sale Items. Discounts for a group only apply to that product group.

But a voucher code applies at order level. That means it applies to all the items in the basket whichever product group they belong to.

I don't want the voucher code discount to be applied to the Sales Items product group. But how do I stop that happening ?

I have looked in detail at the discount advice in the manual but can't see the answer to this problem?

        Anyone else solved it already?

        Thanks,

        Laura

Voucher codes don't have to be at order level. You can define them for cart contents instead and dthen use product groups.

Duncan, good suggestion - thanks. I will see if I can make it work that way.
