    Explorer 8 beta, homepage issue?

    I recently downloaded the beta version of Explorer 8 and have noticed that when we uploaded the site it doesnt recognise the banner which we created at the top of the homepage. It does however recognise it inside the catalogue. I have tested it in Explorer 7 and Firefox and all seems well there! Does anyone have thoughts on this?

    Ie8 trashes most sites so you will need to rebuild your site to work with ie8

        Seems OK for most of my stuff.

        It seems to break Norman's Tabber though. It looks as if there's an extra blank line at the start of the content that also includes a blank space where the surrounding box should be.

          Remember its just beta, heres a interesting read if you have the time:

          ...you can give them feedback on it. And I wouldn't spend any unnecessary time fixing things that should / may work on later releases.

            No there is absolutely no point in changing thinks to work in the beta as the final release will almost certainly be different. Several recent threads on this subject already

              Hi All
              I agree, I tried the 1st release of IE8, and it was not very good, but having just downloaded & installed the latest beta test it seems more stable and to render web pages better.
              Also next to the refresh button there is a button with what looks like a torn sheet of paper-this is "compatibilty mode": I quote "Websites for older browsers will often look better, and problems such as aout of place menus, images or text will be corrected".
              However the previous issue trashed the CSS in one of our websites, but in this issue it looks fine, so it seems they are trying to be helpful.
              Almost an admission from Microsoft that IE8 will break websites if they are not designed for it!
              Thanks Mr Gates (for nothing)!
              But yes it's best to wait and see what the final release does to our websites, from past experience of Microsoft's compatibility issues....... .

                The problem is not really caused by microsoft as the are making ie8 standards compliant unfortunately most websites are not built to be compliant and so they break. Comparability mode is an attempt to solve the problem but in the real world people will not understand it's use. Google is poised to strike with chrome to try and grab the browser Market as the google pages do not render correctly in ie8 so they are hoping uses with switch

                  I've been advised to add:

                  <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7"/>

                  for now. Apparently it fixes the problem and customer doesn't have to do anything.

                    Better to sort the issues rather than making it backwards compatible.
