For info (in case it helps someone avoid the problem)...
I use Actinic Payments and I had the problem with orders sticking in the pending tab and so having to export them.
I found that it seemed to happen if I committed a pre-authorised payment under then 'Progress & Payments' tab and then did something else (such as printing the invoice or changing tabs).
I now commit the payment and click on OK, then re-open the order and do anything else I need to do. I occasionally forget and get a 'stuck' order' but otherwise this seems to have prevented the problem.
