Thought I would try and export site and see what happens when importing data

Have a site that will not allow cut and past or just move products around different sections

Thought I would try exporting site using csv and importing into a fresh site to see what happens V9.0.3 MU

Tried this out and all it imports is the section headers, I had assumed it exported the whole site but not the images

    Is my logic at fault

Not interested in snapshots just trying to get a clean new database of the site if possible as nigling faults have moved with the updates from V6 to V9

The exported csv file appears only about 200kb long

If it encounters something missing on a line to import, it generally doesn't bring that part in and provides you with an error message explaining the problem. If you mimic the images from the site you are copying into the same place on the new site, i reckon it might just work for you as images are often the downfall of an import.

Did you get errors on the re-import?

Products with images will need to have the images available within the new site.

If images aren't available on the re-import, then these lines will fail and be omitted.

So if you old site had images in Sites/Site1/ProductImages and the new site is Sites/SiteNew then you'll need to create a ProductImages folder within SiteNew and copy all your images into it. Same for Sections images, Extended Info, etc.

Also check that the Product and Section layouts that you are using are available in the new site. If the old site is the result of a sequence of upgrades, then it may well be using non-standard layouts.

          Thanks Lee / Norman

Does the site names have to be the same or just transfer the Images

Would this be the best way to get a fresh start?

Just the images as it's a relative link. Just have an identical named folder containing identical images in an identical place in the site folder of the new site.

              Hi Lee

Can you confirm this is probably to best way to get a clean database or would a fresh actinic install be better witha snapshot?

Problems seem more to do with actinic than the database, i.e. cut and copy, move sections up or down the list, but I am just a humble shop keeper who takes a wild guess, closes eye's, turns around three times and then hits the first key i can find

There's a number of ways Chris. You can license a new site, put all the images in place and then copy paste the products over between sites just by highlighting them, then copy, then open new site and paste. You can also go through the whole of the design library, just reverting layouts and deleting any non standard ones or you can license a new site and then import a hierarchical. They will all give you a clean database and I have used them all.

My personal favourite is to copy paste between sites, then snapshot it and then import that snapshot into a 2nd new design. That way only the images you are using come across too and it's a bit like a housekeeping exercise.

                  Thanks Lee

Actually after hitting the submit button on last post, I thought why not just try yourself, so licenced a new site and imported snapshot and problems solved

Like your idea of the personal fav, may well try that over the break, Pity actinic dont supply a cleanup solution to get rid of some of these niggles

Ok great improvement by making a new site and importing snapshot, this solved all of my niggly problems

As the original was only updated from 9.0.1 last week (overwritten instalation) why did the 9.0.3 not give me the same corrections to the site.

I now understand why others say do a clean install, but always assumed they were just being finiky (god knows how thats spelt) but dont understand how if the snapshot is good as it must be and the software is overwritten buy the new instalation how you can carry problems over to the new site
