    Professional help sought!!!

    Hello Everyone,

I really need some help as I am struggling with the ins and outs of ecommerce. Despite many attempts I am resigned to the fact that my brain simply fails to compute anything with an "e " preceding it.

I have a half designed site thanks to a family friends company. But appears that they were simply using some guys in Russia or Ukraine to do the design work, so they didn't seem very knowledgable about the design side of things and they take about a month to return any calls!

I also need to find out more about getting the site optimised, email marketing to existing customers, and cross channel selling on the comparison sites. And I am floundering!!!

Can anyone make any suggestions as to who may be able to get the site and help with the other parts too.

I have version 9 Business and the site is www.thefittingscompany.co.uk...please don't laugh at it! I seem to have screwed it up "trying" to sort it out myself!

    Cheers in advance

I've seen a hell of a lot worse before, that's not so bad. Main problem i can see is that you have deadlinks all over the place. If you run your site through 'Xenu Link Sleuth' it will report all the failing links and show you on which page they exist. You can clear up the obvious ones at the top for example by just linking them to the correct page names.

You don't seem to have filled out page titles on your sections either, there is a tutorial on my site about setting up the basics on these, perhaps a read of that could help.

It's certainly not as dire as you made out in your post though, it looks fine to me, it just needs to be made to work, which is very basic things such as titles, names and not having deadlinks.

You may also find it helpful to add a link to your post that works, less hassle for people to try and help you then.

There is a list of designers on the actinic website. I suggest you start ringing round rather than waiting

Great news - in that case send me a snapshot and I will have a look for you. No charge as I hate seeing people ripped off.

Sgtbash - says we are all nasty people on here by the way

                O

The site was actually designed about a year ago, when it was still my business and I did actually have some of the stuff that there are links for!! Since then I have joined my husband's company and we will be selling more plumbing products, hence the need to get it redesigned!

The plan is to go orange ( it's where the future is apparently !!) and keep the site, functional, clean and simple. The first thing I have to get done is to get all of the links updated as I can't work out how to swap them over or turn the off. Needless to say it must be a huge turn off for potential customers.. and it's not even optimised..

I used to live just down the road from you in bishops itchington and fly over on my paraglider many years ago. As lee says it does not look too bad - send me a snapshot.

                      Hi,

I just been on your site and, you probably know, but the links at the top of the page don't work - they just bring up a 'page not found' The reason for this is that the page name is different to the pages in your Actinic shop.

At the top the page name is http://www.thefittingscompany.co.uk/..._fittings.html and in your shop you have http://www.thefittingscompany.co.uk/..._Fittings.html which is different at the page names are case sensitive and this is why it does not work.

I also noted that your pages do not have any Meta Descriptions which is important to get a better position in Google. Also sometimes your Checkout is not working correctly. i.e I put an item in and when I click on Checkout it says my Basket is empty, although not on all items.

I recently helped my friend'a site www.spellfame.co.uk who had similar problems and sorted the above problems out. All his product pages now have unique Meta Titles, Descriptions and Keywords which are automatically generated using the software and not by just using the Product Descriptions by the method. I utilise the templates in the background to do this. This has made a major improvement to their position in Google and is on the first page for many of his key phases. I am implementing this good practice on my own site http://www.leisurebuildings.com/

If you need further help I will be happy to try to assist.

                      Regards,
                      Robin Antill

Thanks for taking the time to reply and thank you for the offer of assistance. I finally decided to take the plunge and get the website redone by Lee of website designed.
