I know ... you've heard it before .... duplicate pages during upload ....

    Hi Actinic folk,

Please bear with me, this is the first time I've posted on this forum although, I've browsed it quite a bit recently and found quite a few interesting tips and pointers from you knowlegable lot.

I've also read up quite a bit on the topic mentioned and looked through a few threads in the 'upload' section and searched about a bit but haven't managed to find an answer as such, but am happy to be pointed in the right direction if need be.

I realise that duplicate pages seems to be a bone of contention in that it comes to light in the upload section rather than the page creation bit, but in terms of sorting it out, I can cure it by simply deleting the copied product and copying the original one again and re-pasting it in the new section, during which point Actinic allocates a unique page number and off you go, but .... this is a pain in the proverbial as we are expanding the site and adding new sections (which we want to link to section tabs) Is there any easy fix as a couple at a time are OK but when you've got a 30 or 40 on a regular basis it is a bit different!

It is also an issue if we want to change a product that might appear in say 6 different sections as a duplicate with for example a "New for 08" in the title tag which needs to be changed to "new for 09" for example, at the route product, but it won't change the duplicate page name (although visably it looks fine) but gets hung on the upload section and as I understand it you can't change the page name in the duplicate as it is only editable at the route product, so its a bit of a catch 22 as I see it. Having said that despite getting the majority of the site www.likeys.com to where it is at the moment (which is generally working well for us - though I'm a partner in the business and not an IT guru as you've proably already gathered) I am entirely prepared to be shot down in flames for being a numpty

Thanks in advance for you help ......

    Hi Matt,

I take it you are talking about the extended info page that is being duplicated when uploaded? The problem is because you are changing the 'Short Description' of the duplicated product as Actinic sees it then as a different product. Having said that though, this issue has been fixed in v9.0.3 so you could upgrade to sort this problem or don't change the short descriptions and have completely new products where it is different.

      Hi Tracy,

Thanks for your reply. It seems as if I do have to enter it as a completely product. I just find this a pain espescialy as the product appears in quite a few places on the site and sometimes the only difference is a colour change and thus only an image change neccessary, but have to re-enter all the info and copy and paste it in the relevant sections and delete tthe old ones out. I'm in the process of trying to sort out some 'tabs' ie running, adventure racing, cycling etc so I can only think that the process might be even more complicated. Also I would expecting that when the original is deleted that it would dissappear from all the product sections, but this doesn't appear to be the case.

I guess I'll have to read up whether the upgrade to 9 is worth it though the general consensus seems to be that it is.

Actinic has just managed to loose more than half of the product sections whilst attempting to manoevre tham about in order to get some new product sections into alaphabetical order , so I've had to reimport the saved site as I've had this issue before, fingers crossed it comes good

Do you know if version 9 has the ability to introduce new sections without having to rejig the whole lot to order them - something Actinic doesn't appear to relish

      Thanks again for you help

If you highlight a section and right-click and select 'New Section' it will appear directly below the one highlighted (at the same level so you can do this on sub-sections too). If you select 'New Sub-Section' it will appear as a sub-section of the highlighted section at the top of the list of current sub-sections.

To move sections around use the shift key when dragging a section to keep it at the same level and it will appear below the section it is dragged to. Without using the shift key it becomes a sub-section of the one it is dragged onto.

        This is in v8 too.

This is not fixed in 9.0.3 as I have posted several times and am still waiting for support to send me some info from November.

Jan at Mole-End.biz has a tool to sort the catalog. There's a 30 day trial here:

I cannot recreate it in v9.0.3. Do you have a support ticket number and I'll see if I can find out some info on your issue?

                Hi Tracey,

Thanks for the help, it would appear that I am a numpty (or a bit of one anyway!)

Having said that when I did try and move things about with the shift key as suggested Actinic managed to loose some of the sections and gave the message:

"Numeric value out of range (null)" I'm not sure what I can do at this stage ....

I'm just the process of reimporting again to get the lost sections back

Thanks Duncan for you pointer re : catalogue sorting thingy, although I would have thought that it wouldn't be too much to do within Actinic or am I missing a trick?

Before you try any work involving moving data/products, take a snapshot thus if it goes wrong (and it often does) all you have to do is a quick snapshot import to get back to your stable position

                    Hi Jo,

Thanks for the advice ..... I've learnt to do that the hard way - I lost about 2weeks of work whilst building the site in the early stages and attempting to move sections about live and learn ..... as you say I always back up now before attempting anything like that as its about a 50:50 chance whether it works or not.

Are you moving a section that contains a lot of sub-sections/products in it?

It's possible that there's something gone awry in the database so you could try deleting the section that you want to move and then undeleting it and see if it will move ok after that. Alternatively, you could compact your database (Housekeepting | Compact Databases) then export your catalog (File | Export - save it with a .csv extention) and then re-import it as that can sort out problems in the database.

If you're still having problems moving sections around then I suggest you contact support so they can take a look at your snapshot.

I'm not sure what a "lot" is but, there are about 1500 variations ....

I'll try a few of you other suggestions ... thanks again for your patience and your help in trying to sort things out
