BUG: No search results for duplicate products with hidden original

Yes folks, believe it or not v903 IMMA has a big bug

Search omits duplicate products with an original either hidden or in a hidden section.

    Problems with this:

1/ No product found in search if the original is hidden.
2/ Cart links for duplicates with hidden original do not work.
3/ Cart marketing links are blank for these duplicate products. Marketing link may display as "This product no longer available". Very confusing for shoppers to have a list in the cart area saying this.

Sounds like it's working correctly to me. If I have hidden products then I don't want them showing in a search.

Sounds like you have checked to have duplicates to 'Hide on Website' independantly in the Duplicate Fields Configuration.

In 902 (with duplicates independently selectable to be hidden - thanks Duncan) and the original hidden; the duplicates show in the search. It has worked like this since version 7. Now in v903 these duplicates with the original hidden don't appear in the search results.

Go into search settings and check what you have selected for the handling of duplicate products.

When upgrading it is very common for duplicate settings to be reset to the default

I've checked that all of the settings which allow this are as they were in my 902 installation. Didn't have this problem upgrading from 8 right the way through to 902. (plenty of other ones though!)

Settings | Duplicate Field Configuration - Hide on Website (general) checked
Settings | Search Settings - Index Product Duplicates checked

There's something dicky with the v903 search anyway, because Actinic is indexing products in hidden sections and trying to link to it resulting in 404 errors. The actinic solution was to run an SQL query to hide each product in these sections individually.

                The actinic solution
So why not tell us you had already contacted actinic about it and post the solution - nothing like wasting our time

Perhaps I wasn't clear. That is a different problem.

Problem 1 which I'm posting about is that duplicate products with hidden original are not being indexed.

Problem 2 which I reference to illustrate that there is something seriously wrong with search in v903 is that the original product is being indexed when it shouldn't be. Discussed here

In effect, it is working in reverse.

                    Hi,

I've reported the issue to development and unfortunately, there is no simple workaround for it other than to not hide your original products.
