Upgraded to 9.03, compact database problem

    Evening all,
Just upgraded to 9.03 which seems to have gone mostly smoothly. However when trying to compact databases, I get the following message:

"There was a problem compacting the database.
    C:\....\ActinicCatalog.mdb
    with the database
    C:\...\tempActinicCatalog.mdb
The reported error was: Driver's ConfigDSN, Configdriver, or ConfigTranslator failed. Please use Explorer to investigate this problem"

Actinic then closes as usual, and I can restart it. Uploads and downloads seem to be fine, and I can produce a snapshot of the same size as before the upgrade. The published site appears fine also.
Any ideas welcome, in advance of my call to support tomorrow

    Thanks,
    Ben

Ben if you have Access you could try compacting and repairin the database directly in there to see if it helps.

Make sure you make a copy of it first though, just incase!

Sadly Rich I don't have a copy of Access (probably a good thing otherwise I'd break things more often!). Thanks anyway.

Duncan- thanks, I'll check these posts and see if either work- I'll post back either way to let others know the result.

Nothing worked... I'm going to try uninstalling and reinstalling Actinic, as I suspect part of the problem is I've had to change the paths to the database on the new V9 because of old V9 and previous installations. A clean slate's required here, I think!

              Morning Darren,
I downloaded the complete new version from the Actinic site and imported a snapshot. However, stupidly I didn't uninstall the previous V9 installation, just changed the directories for the new one. I suspect this is what's caused the problems.

I've now started cleaning my machine- I still have V7 and V8 on there as well as "old" V9. I'm actually running the sites from another computer for the moment so no stress on the business side.

Once I've cleaned the main machine I'll reinstall a new version, import a snapshot and see what happens. If you have any other suggestions feel free to comment!

              Cheers
              Ben

OK, wiped all traces of old Actinic versions, reinstalled a clean V9 install, imported a clean working snapshot- the original problem persists. Time to call support, methinks, unless anyone else has any suggestions.

Ben, just out of curiosity what are the full file paths for your Actinic Databases?

Rich- the new install uses the default settings. According to the ODBC information in Control Panel, the paths are set up to C:\documents and setttings\ben biscoe\my documents\actinic V9\sites\site 1. This seems right to me but I'm certainly no expert!

                    All suggestions welcome.

Does it give you the option to repair and compact through the Control Panel?

yes- I've tried repairing the databases this way, which says has been successful. If I try to compact it asks me which database I want to compact into, and I'm unsure so have not yet gone further.

Sorry Ben, I'm not sure what else to suggest. Have you logged a support query yet?

Your welcome, although I don't think I've been that much assistance.

Can you clarify that you are using a snapshot from a previous V9 version?

If that's true, could you import an old V8 Snapshot and see if that will Compact? Not sure if it will shed any light, but you may be able to determine what changes (if any) are causing the problem.
