    Catalog Crashing

    Hi,

    Im running V9.03.

For some unknown reason my catalog won't start.

I get the message initialising site objects and nothing launches.

Does anybody know wheres the best place is to start troubling shooting this problem? There's no visual errors or warnings?

I've compacted the access database, done a reinstall, increased the memory and also done system restore..... still nothing

I even get the same problem when its a new install without importing my old database into sites.

Starting to look like a machine issue.

I have an identical problem with a client's Actinic at the mo.

It crashes his machine - sometimes with a dump and sometimes without. Usually crashes immediately after updating a price - but there are other ways to do it. Sometimes there is an application log entry for ntdll.dll and sometimes not - I've followed another thread on the BB for ntdll.dll problems and various other boards without effect.

If I take a snapshot and put it on any of our machines and it's absolutely fine.

Only difference is he is on XP SP3 and I'm on XP SP2.... another reason not to upgrade?

            Hmm,

            I dont understand.....

1 minute its ok and now it wont work...

Ive removed sp3 so back to sp2 and still nothing....

Looks like I will have to completely rebuild the machine.

                  Thanks Lee

                  Oh great...

Last time I used actinic support for a problem like this I had to wait 3 weeks for a none helpful reply.

Ill just rebuild the machine and count my loses.

PMSL - try support, it would seem they are on the ball these days

I decided to go down the root of reinstalling the machine...

Alas everything was fine for about a day.

I noticed that the last windows update was Software Distribution Service 3.0.

I have done a system restore but the actinic still crashes.

I've spoken to support and they have suggested that I send them a snapshot. :-(

Don't see theres much point as this is a windows issue...

I can see that when actinic is initialising the objects it rights a jet*.tmp file to my temp dir. Is the jet file something to do with Access?

OK.... I thought they were MS Jet engine database files.

Update to my post on 10th Feb.

We removed SP3 from my client's machine and Actinic now appears to be behaving itself!! All the actions that made it crash (i.e. updating a price) now work fine.

We'll see what happens with a few days of use.
