    Components in shopping cart

    Hi

Most of the products I want in my site are of the standard product+shipping type but I also want people to be able to book workshops online which obviously don't have associated shipping. I want people to be able to pay the deposit or the balance or the total cost so I've set up components and options to this effect. Looks fine on the product pages but in the shopping cart it shows correctly a quantity of 1 against the payment option but it also show a quantity of 1 against the workshop title. Is there a way to suppress this JUST for the workshop bookings.

    I'm using v 8.5.3.0.0.0.IDHB

    Cheers

Only way I can think to do this ONLY for specific products (as there is a way to remove this qty figure via scripts but it'd be a site-wide change) would be to create hidden products for each payment option and associated them through the component permutations.

In the 'Permutations tab' of the component, associate each permutation with a hidden product.
Tick the box for 'use associated product name (and tax, where appropriate) and enter the prices either here or in the hidden products themselves (in which case you then need to change the 'pricing' dropdown to 'associated product')

Then, set your Pricing Model (General Tab of the 'workshop booking' main product) to "sum of component prices" and make sure the box for "No Orderline for Main Product" is ticked.

If you set it up like this then the only line showing in the cart will be the Short Description of the hidden product relevent to the option chosen

I truly hope that made sense LOL

Succinct and to the point LOL - many thanks Tracey. The only problem (and I'm probably being picky here) is that, although it's now precisely what I wanted on the cart pages, it looks a bit clumsy on the product page. I've changed the first product on the page below to your suggestion but I'd rather it looked like the second product on the page. Is it possible?

you'll probably need to experiment with the layouts (the attribute layout, most likely) to see if you can get it showing just your choice in that list and not the whole component/attribute/choice shebang.

Well my washing machine is bust at the moment but, come on Lee - a man of your calibre .... :-)).

If you go to the link and look at the first two products you'll see what we're on about. The deposit/balance/total price bit of the first course looks great in the cart but longwinded on the product page and the second course looks perfect on the product page but rather strange when it's in the cart. I've been playing about for a while following Tracey's suggestions but can't quite get it perfect.

did you make sure you checked the box for "Name from associated product" in the permutation? (actually, the way V9 creates this itself, that might BE the ass.d product name)

I still think you need to look at a layout somewhere so it just shows the choice next to the radio button, not the whole name.

Maybe play with different permutation layouts? I hate permutation layouts actually, I rarely (if ever) use one as I find them long-winded (as you are finding).
Perhaps try a different Component layout? What are you component and/or attribute layouts set as?
I seem to think I had to 'meddle with' code, when upgrading to V9, to get it to show JUST the choice name rather than the whole permutation.
Will try to find relevent thread (think TraceyG posted it but that won't narrow it down!)

                right...blimey, took some finding!
Knew what Id' changed in Actinic but couldn't find the reference on the forum to match!

                http://community.actinic.com/showthr...mutation+entry

If you make the change in TraceyG's last post, it will show just the CHOICE name next to your radio buttons but still show the full, hidden product's name in the cart/invoices etc

NOTE: You need to change the RADIO BUTTON PERMUTATION ENTRY rather than the dropdown one, mentioned in that post.
(Design > Library > Layouts > Permutation Row Layout or you should get to it by clicking on the text/radio buttons in the Design Tab)

                Does that help?

Yes !!!!!!!!!! Tracey, you're a star - thank you. Thanks to TraceyG, too, of course. Some things I can sort out myself, given a bit of time and a lot of stubborness but I don't think I'd have got that one. Thanks again.
