Library error - This is not a ZIP file or the structure of ZIP file is damaged!

    Hi.
I posted a thread yesterday on backup and restore and as I suspected, soon after that my C drive failed. I had already taken a snapshot by file/snapshot/export and named it Actinic Backup on my memory stick.

I've now installed Actinic Catologue on my laptop to continue the business and tried to reinstall the site by file/snapshot/import. I then select All Content and I then after some disk whirring I get this message:

    FATAL ERRORS
(File Snapshot.cpp, Line 1199) - Archive error 12 - The zip file open call failed
Library error - This is not a ZIP file or the structure of ZIP file is damaged! has been caught.

Its an .acd file on my mem stick which is what the snapshot backup process gave me, not a zipfile. I have no real idea what to do next so any help would be very, very welcome.

    Thanks

Try copying the .acd file to the laptop first. Then try the import again. Are/were the two Actinic versions the same on both PC and laptop? Were they both running the same OS?

Thanks, I'll try that. Answering your question, no, the main PC is Win XP Pro, the laptop is newer and is Vista.

Are you the administrator and is UAC on the laptop turned off? I believe this can be a problem.

You'll probably have a demo site on the Vista system. See if you can make a Snapshot of it and whether that can be reloaded.

We're trying to narrow down whether it's the Vista installation or the Snapshot that's the problem.

Another thing to try is to copy your .acd file, rename the copy to .zip and see if you can open it (it's basically a Zipfile with some extra header information). You may need an older Zip utility. I use WinZip V7 for this - newer ones may not work.

Finally, do you still have your old system running? If so, copy the entire Site folder onto removable storage right now before it gets any worse. Also run Actinic, go to Housekeeping / Security and copy / paste everything these to a text file.

I can highly recommend one of these for getting files from hard disks that won't boot anymore. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=310122273557

Just remove the hard disk, plug in the the adaptor and power sockets and then connect via usb to another system. I used one recently to recover some files from a friends PC and it worked perfectly. Definitely worth having as a quick and easily alternative to backups that may not have the most recent files on it. (You should also have a proper backup in case important data or the hard disk gets totally wiped).

Nadeem confirmed yesterday that exporting/importing to/from a memory stick can be troublesome. As stated before, copying the snapshot file to your desktop and importing should solve this - as troublesome as it is, I would advise to install 9.0.3 if you haven't already.

If you are fairly confident the hard drive is goosed, place it in a moisture-free container and place it into a freezer for an hour or so - then quickly connect it back up and see if you can get it to boot to recover any other data you may wish to keep.

you'll have to be a bit more specific!
Which part of which problem do you have?

sorry to but in, we back up to a memory stick each day, not had any problems reinstalling which I have done several times on different machines.

What i have noticed is that if the memory stick is nearly full then you can get an error message on backup completion of md caught

you don't always get the message if the memory stick fills up sometimes actinic finishes but no warning, this would give an incomplete backup.

I would recommend allowing twice the space for a backup on a memory stick.

Just a point for future backups!

This is what ACTINIC Told me.

Its not 1 and its not 2 so even actinic guys do not know what it is. but the snapshot works fine on my system but it comes up with this error on my clients.

Goes to show there is nothing wrong with the snapshot

                        (File Snapshot.cpp, Line 1199) -
Archive error 12 - The zip file
                        open call failed
This means that the snapshot is corrupt.

If the snapshot has been downloaded from somewhere, it has: -
been uploaded or downloaded in ASCII mode (FTP)
it has been downloaded before the upload was complete
If either of these problems are the cause of the issue, then for 1). simply have the person who sent the snapshot upload in 'binary' mode.
If the cause was 2). then you simply need to download it again once you have assured that the upload has completed.

If you have not downloaded the snapshot from somewhere, then it is corrupt and there is nothing you can do.

so, trying to translate what you are saying

You've sent the snapshot to your client (how?) and they cannot import it as they get that error message?

You've tried importing the snapshot yourself into Actinic and it imports fine?

How are you transferring the file to your client?
