    Design backup

    Hi,

I sent a design snapshot to a client yesterday. When they tried to import it they get the following message I have pasted below.

This has only just started happening.
My developer version is 9.0.2 their version in 9.0.3 - I have previosuly imported snapshots for them without any problem.

Has anyone run into this problem before?

The imported site was created by an older version of Actinic (eUJ+[1]Ǫ[1]{`QQSzėÅ[1]}rO4јֻrrtނk̞Q̴Мb=ѽ#D>{r\Ҫ.м`Jhvҗ) than this version (9.0.3.0.0.0.IMMA).

Actinic can only import a site created by V6 and later versions.

    There is 1 Fatal error

Importing 903 into 902 is just asking for trouble IMO. Bearing in mind that Actinic documented around 200 bug fixes in 903 from 902, surely the logical approach is to be on the latest version, the same as your clients? You are working with a terrible version of the software and need to upgrade, you can then send a 903 snapshot and see what happens.

Make sure the snapshot has something in it also as snapshots are no longer as reliable as before, with many people experiencing failing or empty ones on occasions.

      Snaphot

      Hi Lee,

      Thanks for the info.

I upgraded my own system. Created a design snapshot and sent it over to the client, after uploading they received the error below.

I'm going to get a previous and complete backup from the client, reinstall onto mine then re-export out another design snapshot. Myabe this will work, then again though, it may not as nothing is certain with Actinic except its is a pain in the a***.

Operation: Opening the [DesignObjects] table sorted by [nID]

The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot find the input table or query 'DesignObjects'. Make sure it exists and that its name is spelled correctly.

Action: Contact your Actinic reseller or Actinic Support as appropriate

wouldn't it make more sense to patch your developer version to 9.0.3?

Ben if your client is OK to wait a few hours, why not get them to send you a full site snapshot, import the snapshot, then copy the necessary files using Windows Explorer to your 'design snapshot' site, then do a heirarchical export of the clients full site, then import that export file - snapshot that and send it back, your complete design and all product data should be in your 'design' site now. Design snapshots simply do not work.

            Snapshot mayhem

So far the client has been waiting nearly a day. They're starting to laugh at me and have told me in no uncertain terms that they think Actinic is c***.

I'm in the process of rebuilding in an alternative (online) cart but will try out your suggestion in the meantime.

Are you saying that I should simply avoid design snapshots? Are we talking about a 5% fail rate or am I likely to experience far more failures than this.

Thanks for the advice as always.

There's a guide somewhere on the forum on how to import a new design into an existing site, I'll be damned if I can find it, must be somewhere though!

              5% success? I've tried 3 times and had a 0% success rate

I have not managed to get a design snapshot to work, and had various issues recently. I ended up importing the product details from and export, which i add had blank lines in it and actinic failed to import until i manually edited the file.

As far as im aware Jont and maybe Lee are the only ones who manage to do it, the rest i dont think bother trying
