Order lines in emails

Is it possible to edit the order lines data that gets added to emails ? Specifically if a range of products are ordered that have options, all the options get added at the end of the order lines table so you cannot tell which ones belong to which products.

I've read a discussion on this before a few times, can't recall if there was a solution or not, maybe a good idea to search and see what was the outcome if you have no luck on this thread.
