Unable to set default printer

I have installed Actinic v8 onto a new computer (Windows Vista) and transfered my website to the new computer without any problems until now.
I am unable to print any orders or reports as no default printer is set, i am unable to add a printer as the button does not work, this is the same from the print screen or from file printer settings.

I have read the forums and edited the registry deleting the printer settings in actinic so that the windows default printer can be used but it has made no difference.
When i try to print i get the following message
Error in File C:\Program Files (x86)\Actinic v8\Invoices.rpt:
No default printer.

My old XP computer worked fine and i have copied the above file incase it had been corrupted but nothing seems to make any difference.

Please help as i have run out of ideas.

I can't think of a reason for that button being greyed out, it's very strange, however why not try to approach the problem from a different angle and set up a default printer for the PC, Actinic should then use that one.

Hi, The printer button is not greyed out it just does not do anything, I have the printer set as default on my PC .

Are you using the 64bit version of Vista? I know Actinic had some issues but they're mostly rectified now. I only ask as I am getting the same error and am using Vista 64bit.

The other issue is that a default printer can not be selected in Actinic or the system registry (as far as I've tried). Could it be that the 64bit Vista's printer setup is slightly different to the usual 32bit version?

Hi Peter,

This just happened to me, I removed my default printer from the computer, and then the print setup button on the print destination dialog did nothing when clicked on and the report was not printed.

To fix this, set a default printer on your computer through the control panel, then go to file / print setup and choose the new default printer, once you have done this the print setup will work as normal and you can then select a valid printer for your reports and print them.

I've raised a bug report.

I have the same problem, but the suggested input does not work as I have a network printer and not a local. Would any fix you can think of resolve this issue for me?

When I set up printers, I can set any printer as my default (my default printer is on the network), I don't use evil vista though, so maybe that is why you are having problems, seems a little odd for it to disallow that though.

It still doesn't help though, does anyone else have issues with print drivers under 64bit vista?

I have the printer set as default but still was unable to print or even select printer from Actinic.
When i started my pc and went to actinic it selected the printer and continued to the print screen, I then realised that the Printer (HP) was turned off before i opened Actinic. I turned the printer on and was then able to print from Actinic ok.
I do not know why this happens but if Actinic is started with the printer on it does not work.
