O.K. I got there and am trying to change what it opens with - as per your instructions (very clear - thanks).

However, the list of options doesn't seem to contain Microsoft Windows Base - so that must be the stumbling block.

Perhaps you haven't got the script host installed:

You can check if you have scripting host installed by simple going to Start - Run and typing:
        wscript

That should bring up a Windows Script Host Setting window.

Note that WSH is included in Win XP SP3 and should therefore be installed if you have SP3 installed.

You should see wscript.exe in C:\windows\system32.
If wscript is there then go back to file types and click on Change and Browse and select wscript.exe in C:\windows\system32 - Open, OK, Close

Yes, I do have SP3 installed - I'm a stickler for the latest patches (hence me getting into trouble trying the beta of 9.0.4!)

I get the enclosed when I try what you suggest (see enclosed). However, I do have this: C:\WINDOWS\system32\scripting

I tried installing it again (from your link) but it tells me my service pack is newer so I don't need to.

O.K. I've browsed and chanegd ot to read like your previous screenshot - fingers crossed that will work. I have successfully opened the file and changed the figure to 65 (as I have about 500 products but this will be growing soon).

I'll restart Actnic and see what happens.

I'm also having problems with my V9, on Vista, taking about 20-30 seconds to commit changes, scroll about, it's becoming very unusable and I only have about 400 products. I have completely deleted and reinstalled Actinic and done the thing with the vbs script, makes no difference. It *was* OK initially when I started using this new machine back in March, something has changed recently though, I expect some kind of Windows update is the culprit. I hope that a resolution can be found before things get really busy leading up to Christmas as otherwise I will be spending most of my time staring at the screen waiting for that whirly Vista hourglass to stop and give me a cursor position.

If you're using 'AddThis' or any other external files / images such as SSL certificate Logos, etc then make sure they're blocked in preview mode using a blockif.

It worked a treat for me.

I also noticed a major slowdown when changing sections within Actinic in the last 1, maybe 2 weeks. I resolved it, after a lot of effort, by hiding AddThis from the preview.

This has reduced the time to change from about 10-15 secs to about 1s.

I would recommend anybody who uses AddThis to make the change - I do not know what AddThis have changed but it certainly has had a detrimental speed affect on several of my Actinic installations, of different sizes, on different operating systems.

Yep, wrapping that code around the AddThis button seems to have improved things.

Do we know if this issue has been fixed in 9.04?

The "AddThis" issue is not an Actinic problem as it is not part of the Actinic package.

As other contributers have mentioned it is good practice to wrap this code around anything that is being pulled into the site from an external source - e.g. AddThis, SSL Certificates etc.

Many thanks. I think I may have mis-understood the issue - I had read into it - as I am experiencing - severe lag on being able to edit and move sections etc due to the number of products we have, 600+. I had assumed from what I had read it was to do with a setting of 2048 in the product cache size which I had also assumed was also an Actinic issue - is this not the case?

The lag may be due to the addthis toolbar, so try the fix for that and see if that improves things. If not, then try other steps. It has improved performance for everyone else, doing as instructed in this thread, so well worth a try.

I'm not entirely convinced that it is not partly Actinic related in some way.

When you view a preview page locally outside of Actinic the response with addthis is fast however within Actinic it may be considerably slower - whether you have preview enabled or not.

The addthis code must have changed fairly recently to cause this but why it affects Actinic in this way seems to be unknown.

                                Hi David
on a site with nearly 2000 SPP products, we had terrible problems with lag. Once we used the magnificent drounding AddThis hack the lag disappeared completely - everything happens nice and quickly, just as it always has done in V8.
We havn't changed any of the other parameters such as cache size and we have the preview window open.

So maybe you have another issue?
Do you have planty of RAM - insufficient RAM can slow things down a lot?
                                Kind Regards
