Again I'm not sure it would suit all to separate designers and self-builders.
Some self builders create sites just as good as seasoned designers and it might not be appropriate to set them aside.

Many clients give designers very specific briefs and know exactly what they want, even if it goes against the designers wishes or better judgement, after all they're paying the bill. So it's wrong to simply judge a designers ability based on the technical and aesthetic features shown in a finished site. A good designer will satisfy his client's requirements for a fair price.

Indeed there are several people in this forum who started out as self builders and did so well they are now both self builders and take on commissions

A designers job should include a certain amount of educating a client if said client is really going down the wrong road, but at the end of the day after giving good advice a designer will still have to adhere to the clients request.

I think a showcase is a great idea, there are so many things I have learned about Actinic since working on my own site, that I think it would be of real interest to people at all levels.

I think a voting system would be great and perhaps it should be best sites, and best designer, with those sites registered to that designer counting as votes overall for that designer.
