V9 - Stock Control on Attributes

    Ok,

I have been trying to find something on these forums for an age now, and am probably just losing hope ... lol

Anyway. We sell shoes, so shoes can be ordered in different sizes and colours. I need to be reminded if Actinic allows stock control per product attributes, I can't see any options so I'm guessing not, but I also seem to remember a way of doing this ? can anyone point me in the right direction ?

I will also be using this code, as it is just what I have been looking for http://community.actinic.com/showthr...ighlight=stock

    Many Thanks

You can only monitor stock on products so you would have to create a product for each variation and add them to a component on the main product.

Search on 'hidden products' would be my starting point.

Is there ever going to be stock monitoring availble on variations ??

I'd say yes on V10, but it's a pure guess.

My guess would be no. At least not in the near future. The actinic database is based around products. These have a product reference and attributes such as quantity in stock.

A product Variation is just a tag that can be defined for a product such as 'red' or 'small'.

If you want stock control then you just need to learn about assigning products to the variations. This is how the real world works. When you order from your suppliers each shoe size and colour will probably have a unique product reference. This is how you should be doing it in actinic.

...and of course remember that Actinic really only does 'stock monitoring'. To have real-time live stock control, you need to look at plug-ins (at least until V10, anyway).

Is there anywhere that doing this is well documented ?

In the forum via the search facility should be good enough, probably in the KB too. You create a product for each size and then assign that product to the choices, so when someone buys a choice they are in fact buying a physical product that is stock monitored. That product is hidden from the catalog as it is purely for linking to the drop down choices. The inbuilt help should also have this by now. It'd be pretty hard not to find any help on this nowadays tbh.

I think you really need to read the help on attributes, choices and permutations, this will help you both now and in the future tenfold.
