Variables Max Charecter Length

I have built a new Variable for text to be inserted into my product layout,

Somewhat like another Product Description, however when I add the variable and make it appear in the product section under general I can only type in a certain ammount of charecters is there a way to change this?

You may be out-thinking yourself here, probably a much easier way to do things. Can you give an example of what you are trying to do? Norman's tabber for example allows for the splitting up of text into different places, by just using the product description field.

Ok I have managed to solve the problem now. you just need to keep everything on the same line,

Basiclly the tech specs ive got to appear on the left below the image on each product and the normal description on the right

I thought that the Buying Guide was the Add to Cart at first.

I'd consider making your add to cart to be similar and then swopping the position of the two buttons. Also perhaps make the Add to Cart a bright colour than the Buying Guide - don;t be scared of making it bright.

When you have lots of text to put into a variable, the best way is to make the variable a link to an external text file and put it all in there. Actinic will then read in the text file when required.

Note that the external files will not be backed up as default as part of the snapshot (v903 bug). To get around this place the files in a sub directory in the site folder and then add an entry for the folder into SiteBackup.ini

Looks good Shannon. There are varying ways to do these things, if it were mine, i'd have created 5 variables, one for each bullet point, made it so they appeared on their own tab called 'features' which could be filled out at product level.

You can then fill out each variable, one per bullet point, can much easier see what each point is saying and no need to navigate away to see it. If there are any generic messages across all products, then define them all into one of the variables and have that as a drop down list to choose from instead (saves time and avoids inconsistent spelling).

You then have:

<li>Variable 2 contents</li>
<li>Variable 3 contents</li>
<li>Variable 4 contents</li>
<li>Variable 5 contents</li>
</ul>

A condition surrounds the whole list deciding if at least one variable has been completed and a condition around each <li> item to see if it is not blank.

Until actinic address the inability to read a variable that has lots of text in it, one large entry is not really workable IMO.

Also I did use the external files however I have a few hundred products and it was becomming a hastle having to open external files for each product so doing it inside the product is just a time saver.

Shannon, the character limit for 'text' is pretty big, can't remember the exact figure off the top of my head, but it is more than enough - especially if you're combining that with several text variables plus a 'Short Description' for the product page. Just my 2 cents...
