No email sent from SMTP server

    Hi,

Our Catalog 'Email settings' pass the Network Settings test, but no email is received from the Actinic store/ website, either to the customer confirming the order, or notifications to us.

No errors are produced when the Test is run, and no errors are written to the error.err file.

The host is 34SP, and we have set up our own SMTP server with them for the account, and are using the settings, username, and password provided by them.

Would anybody have any thoughts on what might be going wrong, or what to investigate? The 34SP Support people seem a bit stumped. I'm probably going to fall down a crack between 'it's the Actinic software' and 'it's the hosting company' ...

    Regards,

    pete

Make sure the company email address in business settings matches with the email settings in the network setup area.

      Hi Pete,

I would think from the lack of response to your earlier posts that there's no-one else on the forum using 34sp for hosting.

Without knowing some more details there's no way anyone can guess what the problem might be.

The only think I can think of off-hand is to make sure the the sending email address, etc is from the same domain as your website and is the same email address that's set up in the business section of Actinic.

Other than that it really is down to the host. They should have the capability to look at the smtp server logs and see what's happening when Actinic tries to send.

If they can't help, then I'd consider moving hosts. There are so many easy to use hosts and hosting is so cheap that it usually really isn't worth the hassle and effort of trying to workaround hosting problems.

Many thanks - problem now fixed. It was entirely my own fault - I had a 'malformed sender address' in Business Settings | Company Contact | Email address - I had missed out one of the '.' in the '.co.uk' at the end of the email. I had checked that loads of times - I must get a laptop with a better screen!

The hosting company did exactly what you said - checked the SMTP Server logs, and spotted this error. (Strange that the Test script didn't pick this up though - that's what threw me I think).

I cannot commend 34SP highly enough, they are very helpful. I tried them out for a long time before moving our store to them, and their support is very fast (and patient!).

I'm glad you got it sorted and thanks for posting back on the forum.

It is often little mistakes somewhere that cause email problems. The difficulty is often finding them and convincing people it's not a problem with actinic software.

34sp support sounds good. There aren't many non-actinic specialists who will go to the trouble they have.
