    Standard Variable Positioning

This is out of curiosity mainly, however if I was to make a new variable for the RRP of a product. the standard positioning is Product>panel>and then a box with a drop down selection

is there a way I can make it go into Product>General> and then sit next to the price: variable

Yes you can select the panel when you create the variable. Even make a new panel if you wished.

I have added it into the General Panel however I was wondering if it is possible to get it to sit next to the Price: Variable. At the moment when it is in the Panel General it goes down to the bottom of that panel. I was just Curious if it was possible to actual move it around in that panel.

Use the 'Cost Price' field next to it instead, that is now available to use globally in layouts. Forget the name, Actinic never planned it very well, but it can now be used for whatever you want.

Sorry - thought you were referring to the list at the bottom - you are unable to move to the top as this is part of the core program but as Lee points out if you are not using the RRP you can use this for devious ends.
