    Sitemap

Created a sitemap (sitemap.xml) and saved it : then uploaded it to what was indicated to be /(root folder)

    Current path: /
    acatalog

    scottishgifts4u.co.uk

    ActinicWebSiteTest.html [edit]

    htaccess.txt [edit]

    index.html [edit]

    sitemap.xml [edit] 5.54KB --

    test.html [edit]

Is this correct because when i try to upload the sitemap as http://www.scottishgifts4u.co.uk/sitemap.xml it comes up with Error 404 which i think means file not found....am i uploading it in the correct place?

If you uploaded to the root folder, then you must have used some some of FTP facility. If so, then what are the permissions set to? Are they set so that anybody read it? I get the 404 error.

I'm with Servage, I just uploaded directly into the roof folder.

Only if files are over a certain size do you need FTP....or so i assumed anyway because thats what it said when I went to upload it. Is this right? or do all files of this type need FTP?

it could be that your FTP program is taking you to the wrong level within your webspace. The xml file needs to be at the same level as acatalog folder, i suspect it might be one level above this, which is invisible to the web visitor.

        Current path: /
        acatalog

        scottishgifts4u.co.uk

        ActinicWebSiteTest.html [edit]

        htaccess.txt [edit]

        index.html [edit]

        sitemap.xml [edit] 5.54KB --

        test.html [edit]
if the above is an image of your webspace, i would try entering the folder called scottishgifts4u.co.uk as this might also contain acatalog, index.html etc, put the sitemap there.
