should my ssl be on the whole site

I have just found out that I have a copy of my site on my SSL as well.

Can any tell me should it be like that or not.

IIRC this is the shared SSL space for Teclan. This shouldn't (in theory) be the case, perhaps you can ask them to place a robots.txt file on the secured-area.co.uk domain

      Thanks for that replay.

I will speak to Teclan on Tuesday when I get back to work.

      Thank again

Check Actinic > Business Settings > Payment & Security and see which SSL boxes are ticked.

I have just checked that and only checkout pages and customer login is ticked not the whole site.

Does any know what the ssl setting should be like in network setup

Go to network settings, SSL tab, clear all settings.

Go to Payment and Security tab, untick/tick SSL in checkout only.

This should then repopulate the SSL tsb in NS.

There shouldn't be any need to type settings on NS SSL tab, they should autogenerate. (But best to clear them out first though )

I have spoken to my hosting company and they have put a block in the robot text file so google can not see the secured-area on our site.

Could some one tell me when you have an secured-area on the site check out should it be on the whole site.

This is what google has index the secured-area
              https://jglighting.secured-area.co.uk

Is there any other way from stopping the whole site being copied in the secured-area.

              Thanks in advance

There's little point in having SSL at all these days, certainly not on the whole site.

If you use a PSP to take payments then you are only collecting names and addresses on your site and no cc information so you don't need SSL. Some sites prefer to have SSL on their checkout pages only, but not many.

There's nothing you can do at the moment - over time Google will try to crawl subdomain.secure-area.co.uk and will eventually de-index the pages which it is being blocked from (ie. your entire domain.secured-area.co.uk site). The only thing I could suggest is asking your host to fulfill a Content Removal request (through Google Webmaster Tools) to remove the secure-area.co.uk domain from Google's listings. I personally wouldn't try this as I've read a couple of horror stories where Google have misinterpreted and removed the entire site (both http and https).

I agree with this, I wouldn't have a problem with not using SSL but think users expect to see the golden padlock when they enter a stage of significant importance (ie. checkout) - albeit their details which require security are never presented/collected under my SSL, or even my site - it's all done by the PSP. IMO you could almost put an SSL certificate (only if used with a PSP) down as a Gimmick feature.
