did you know there is no real need to ever change the order machine? just take orders to design if you want to update bestsellers/also boughts etc. No real need to take it all back to orders machine TBH

(i notice you said you dont stock control the site)
It's the order machine that won't snapshot.
I need to snapshot it to backup the orders in case, when I import the snapshot from the design machine, it messes up...which it invariably does.

I do need to import into the orders machine because I need the products to be available for offline ordering

      aye..'tis clever, I suppose!

Trouble is, you can't add products, to existing or new orders, offline if they're not on that installation.

we have surf-wax split like this, and haven't updated the order machine in about 2 years. its all v8 but different patch levels.

our orders machine is off site hence we simply dont bother -- we just get a snapshot sent every month or so

        ahh very true....

so it looks like you got into the enviable situation of double trouble by having this set up and vista too boot.

We still have not managed to get a snapshot out of the order machine or in, really messing with the stock, new products and images. We currently upload to the site from the design machine and every week I drop a database in from the order machine and then import a snapshot to get the changes in content.

Just wondering if that will update the products, do it a couple of times, will double check the next time, my have been shooting myself in the foot!! Still using 9.0.3, 9.0.4 was crashing equally 9.0.3 crashes, it all crashes. Feels like I am going round in circles

well, in a turn of luck (thank goodness!) while the export snapshot didn't work (backed up site folder instead) the IMPORT did!
Good thing really. Might not have been responsible for my actions, if it hadn't!

Actually, my luck is turning in general today...tentative finger crossing in action!

Do we have any updates from Actinic that this is a) a known problem and b) if so, being worked on?

That is good to hear, I tend to have to do a bit of a dance to get it to upload with freezing or crashing, to compound it, Actinic has really slowed down again when switch between products or sections.

Usually compact the database, then take a snapshot, do a back up using Mole End, preview the site and then upload with fingers crossed touching wood (holding breath I have found bad for me as it usually means that I wake up on the floor and process has not worked!).

Anyway I am getting fatal errors when importing to the orders as mentioned before, any suggestions would be appreciated. Usual error message can be seen below.

We use a traffic light icon to indicate if the plants are nearly ready, ready and being dispatched or finished (orange, green, red respectively), to get the icon and the link to the key I use a little text file for actinic to generate this. I noticed Actinic was not packing this files in with the snapshot so I have added them as additional files. But it is still causing problems. You can see them on this page Typical page with status icon

Any suggestions on what is happen would be appreciated, thanks

For the first time ever that i can recall, i am now experiencing the slow to do things speed woes. Never had them before, updated to 904 a week or so ago and has been seen since. I have only been working on one site so will need to check others, however the deletion or undeletion of something in the content tree, is considerably longer to do now.

I finally begin to see what people have been suffering!

Slow performance when navigating content tree or adding sections

Performance improved by doing this knowledge base - Slow performance when navigating content tree or adding sections unsure if it is suitable for 9.0.4.

Do we have any updates from Actinic that this is a) a known problem and b) if so, being worked on?
Regarding known or not known problems I am also unsure, I was dealing with support when the original issue happened as we have got Actinic Cover but due to the time frame I gave up on them, they were meant to check a database but never heard back.

No doubt some of it has been sorted in 9.0.4, as we run multi-user and the site1 folder is on the server, I am not keen to move to 9.0.4 until I am happen with upgrade process so a bit of rock and a hard place.

                    Sorry not being clearer

Lee - contact Paul Murphy at Actinic Support, he took our snapshot and did some magic compacting and repairing the database and the delete/undelete process is back to what it should be, it was 20+ seconds, now it's down to a couple.

if you're getting fatal errors, contact support again
Chase them up regularly, if need be.

It's doubtful anyone here will know exactly what to do.
If the fatal errors are producing DMP files, even better. Send those to support too.

                          editted to add

what 'details' do you get for your fatal errors? It says there are 2. What are they?

                            Lee / Mash,

As Grant mentioned contact Paul Murphy in support who should be able to help. There have been reports of sites getting their knickers in a twist depending on the various upgrade paths you have taken.
