V9 find orders search not working

Forgive me if there's a topic I've not found when trying to find an answer to my query, but any idea why 'Find Orders' won't find the orders I'm looking for?
Just upgraded to v9 thanks to Chris at www.randomriver.net - it looks very pretty .
Have discovered (thanks to a non-native speaking customer) that despite taking down the customer name correctly letter by letter the search for her order didn't work, nor did searching on postcode when trying to locate her order. (Didn't help that customer didn't know date of order or order number or even the name in which it was ordered, we tried 3 names and 1 postcode)
In the end I found it by sorting all orders alphabetically and manually looking.

Am I being exceedingly dense or have a missed a tick button on the Find Orders page to get this to work? Then to find the next order in the search has something replaced F3 (Help says it's still F3)? Or do I have a broken search?
    V8 worked fine.
    Thanks

have you made sure there were no other fields filled in in the HUGE search form at the time??
I've fallen foul of this once or twice..where I've searched previously and it's retained the previous search info without me noticing

No, tried that, it simply doesn't search for anything. I've sometimes made it work but no idea how by ticking random boxes but never managed to replicate anything let alone attempt to search for anything sensible that is of use to me. Even serching for the name 'A' doesn't bring anything up (V8 would bring up anything with an 'a' in it), so I am wondering if some random setting somewhere remains unticked elsewhere in Actinic to permit me to search?

Product search works, but searching for same product in the order search doesn't bring up anything at all. We're having to ask customers what they ordered in order to find their order if they've no idea of order number or date.

I have trouble with it too, I have to confess, but I do get some results from it occasionally and my F3 works ok too.
Seems strange that yours isn't working at all.
Which V9 version are you using?

I used to have problems with the search, don't now.

I only use the binoculars search, not the quick search box.

I've unticked the "incremental" box (so search results go to top of list)

I use a lot of *, so if searching for the postcode W1A 1AA, I would only put in W1A* in the postcode line.

If your order is from way back, make sure it will show up depending on how many days you have entered in the "Do not display completed orders more than xx days old" box.

            Edit:

And if you're looking for a name, and have upgraded from an older version, are you now using the same name format as before i.e. First and Last Names on same line, or separately?

i have never had it display a result

out of interest, what happens when search finds what you asked it to,
does the order spring to teh fron, is it high lighted somehow

Good point. I don't use the quick seach box. Only the main search. Perhaps this works better?
And yes, it jumps to and highlights the order although F3 moves to the next one but doesn't actually move the focus of the screen so it can often be off screen and need scrolling to (bit crap really )

One of my client's had the 'order search not working' problem and Actinic confirmed it as a bug. Curiously though, the same snapshot could either have the problem or not have the problem depending what computer it was installed on.

Ah that explains why I thought it had worked, must've been working on the laptop.
I am LOST without search. Dealing with pregnant hormonal, or highly distracted with children screaming in the background customers means they're often ringing with a query with only the information that they placed an order last week, and all we have to go on is postcode because they can't recall if they ordered in their maiden name or were paying on husband's card and thus using his name!!
(and sometimes 'last week' is actually Monday or Tuesday THIS week, but obviously we're dealing with customers to whom this is a lifetime ago)

I'm on 9.0.3 Tracey, and I've only got orders from 2009 on here so fortunately relatively little to look through (did a clear out so if it's last year I can just look on v8)

I'll have a go with the binoculars, have been trying plenty of ***

Saerching for orders is VERY hit and miss--more often miss. Not happy with this facility at all.

VERY VERY BAD, Actinic 9 upgrade sold as "more effecient - complete order option etc ...." doesn't make a difference how much time is saved elsewhere, if it takes 1 hour to find a customer who has lost there order number .........

I would like to see something done about this ASAP - if it is a bug, it is unacceptable.

I can confirm that this is a known bug, it will be fixed in a future release.

Is that a "definitely will be fixed" or just another "we'll add it to the list" statement? Actinic seems to be getting ever more mundane to use - the same old bugs are reported and never fixed and patch release dates are so few and far between it leaves users thinking they could wait 3 months for a potential fix, or they could jump ship and hit the ground running in 3 months time.
