Updating a third party's actinic site

I've never used Actinic before, but have been asked to help somebody with the site that they have developed - because we are doing some SEO work for them. Primarily/simply this will be updating the template.

Any suggestions on how we physically do this? Apart from sitting on their machine?! I presume I can install a 30 day trial for the software and then connect to their site. Will this download all the files associated with the current site or will it trash everything? I presume I need some form of connection key for this.. maybe?!

Any rough pointers much appreciated. Have used lots of ecommerce systems before - all online however - so just need to be able to update the existing HTML/CSS so I can then get on with the main thrust of the work which is ensuring that it is well optimised.

The layouts/templates reside in your client's offline database. You cannot use a trial version to make changes because you cannot send then back to your client again.

You need either work on your clients machine or have a copy of Actinci Designer.

Why not use something like GotomyPC or the like

You also need to make the SEO changes to the design within Actinic, you cannot just change the html files online or your changes will just be overwritten next time their site is uploaded.

I would suggest you install the 30 day trial and find your way around the software before touching the clients site.

Thanks for all your input: I shall download a trial copy, but with the amount of work I expect this to pan out to being so small it's hardly worth my time investing the time in learning Actinic - albeit just the design side of things
