Actinic on more than machine

Hello,

Is it possible to put the same version of actinic on more than one machine providing you are only accessing one website? and would it mess up the database if two or more people had it open the same time?

A client is inquiring about it but I advised him not to do it until I head from you guys if this was a good idea or not.

I have heard of someone thats done this but said they had problems with things being overwritten, but I dont quite know hows they have set it up.

It's a standalone desktop application, you could have it installed on 100 machines and they could all have it open without a problem, apart from overwriting each others work if they upload and no consistency between content if they all try changing things. There is no talking between them unless you have the multi-user version of the software. It sounds like you need that, which enables multiple users into the one master database (on the master PC) via an internal network connection. Unless of course you are talking about the split you can do to let one system manage the orders and one maintain the site content, but I guess you know about that part already.

If you want to put Actinic on several machines and use each machine to run a different site, you will be fine.

If you want to access the same site on several machines using Actinic you need to use the multiuser version, you can actually hack the ODBC connections to link the Actinic database to several machines, but because of the way the program works (caching and reliance on registry settings) it won't work properly and it will almost certainly all end in tears.

If you want to process and view orders on several machines for one or more sites, there are a couple of plugins that you can use :
