Some issues with/questions about Actinic 8

    Hi guys,

I'm currently trying to build a new shop for a client using Actinic 8. I've never used this software before and I've got to say, I'm really struggling. I have Actinic Designer installed and have managed to tease out a layout close-ish to the design I've been given.

I have some questions and a few issues with setting up the shop. I've set up a test site at http://actinic.kozmo.co.uk. Eventually the shop will live at http://www.barnsdalegardens.co.uk/acatalog. For some reason, Actinic is installing the home page at the root rather than /acatalog. If I visit http://actinic.kozmo.co.uk it kind of looks correct (although there are some elements not showing up which are a whole different issue) but if I visit http://actinic.kozmo.co.uk/acatalog - which is where I want the site to live - then it's not showing the menu. Why would this be?

It also appears that a number of Actinic tags are not being converted into HTML tags. For example, in the site above the actinic basehref tag isn't being converted into html and as a result if you click on "View cart", it's rendering without the stylesheets in place. Any suggestions there?

I've got to say, I'm finding the Designer application incredibly infuriating to use. Is it possible to build a theme outside of Actinic in a text editor of my choice because the design system within Actinic is frustrating beyond words! I'm sure it's probably because I'm new to it and haven't got my head round the "actinic way". Hopefully it'll click sooner as opposed to later as I'm on a tight schedule with this project!

    Many thanks in advance though,

    Alastair

i am no designer, but you have two different layouts in operation the home page and the catalogue. Actinic will install and index.html file in the root, you can change this name to something else but it will also upload one to the acatalog directory, these are ment to be different. Think of it as a bricks and mortar shop. The root is the shop front, the acatalog is inside the shop

As for not showing the menu, i would check the layout to make sure you have not deleted the sections list, are you using different layouts for different sections.

someone here can offer better advice but its hard to guess what you have done

Use the Dreamweaver interface instead, it's much easier that way.

Many thanks Darren. I've figured it out a little more now and it's beginning to come together. I'm a bit less infuriated by it now
