    Mandatory Product Options

Hi everyone, its been a little while since my last post been busy busy working on the new site but have just run into a problem now I have it online and testing.

I need to make my product options mandatory as at the moment you can just put a product into to the basket without selecting them!

From reading old forum posts I think I need to put the product options in a componet which I have tried but didn't make any difference to the problem.

Please can someone shed some light on this for me please.

Read the inbuilt help on attributes, choices and permutations, you should know all you need to know then.

without seeing 'the problem', it's pretty difficult to tell where you've gone wrong.
As Lee has said, you need to look into components/attributes/choices/permutations (depending on what your product options actually are)
Is there an uploaded test site?

I have the same problem - the only solution is to create a custom javascript to test whether or not one (or more) options is selected when clicking the 'add to cart' button.

I never bothered - only a couple of customers have went through the full order without selecting the options, after contacting the customers, they both proceeded to place their order over the phone, so as yet, it isn't too big a deal.

If you want to make certain that a person chooses a particular choice from a list, then have the list default to one of those values, usually the most popular. If for instance you sold a product in 3 weights, 500g, 1Kg or 5Kg, you'd set 500g as the default one, so even if they did not choose from the list, they are adding the 500g version when they add to cart.

"Select Waist Size" in the list really is pointless, you can say that in the title above it and leave a size selected as standard.

Lee is there another method at all? If you go here just hit the add to basket button (don't make any choices on the options) you will see what I mean. I am trying to do this in actinic. It was so simple before just add a square bracket at the ends on the option title!

Javascript would be required to do that (I'd be surprised if some not in the forum already), however i'd have to say if you think people are stupid enough to just add to cart without specifying their choices, how do you expect them to a) select the correct choices when given the option and b) manage to get through and complete a checkout process. Make the choices clear and easy to spot/use is the best plan IMO.

I think buyers online are far more savvy now, particularly those who will be buying your kind of products online, i don't see this as an issue personally. I fully understand that some people are idiots when buying online, however with the best laid plans and all the steps in place, they will buy a skirt instead of trousers anyway which you cannot protect against.

LOL no, i was saying that if people are so stupid, no matter what steps you put in place, they will probably buy the wrong garment anyway. Tracey's sig with Homer's comment on stupid people is required.

Thanks for help. The reason I am trying to do this is a lot of my customers are silver surfers some who have never shopped online before and was trying to make things as easy as poss.

Will go hunting for the scirpt in case its about.

If not will have to select the first option in the option list I guess

Yeah we thought about this but our choices are checkbox with drop down list. Ie. You select one of three checkboxes (which has the price assigned) and select the fabric choice from the drop down list. If we used the 'Set as Default' option - the customer would unsuspectingly order Grade A and the first fabric choice in the list.

Seems there's easier/better ways to do this these days, which we're looking in to
