    Add to Basket

    Hi

I have an online store and have asked our IT chap to make a change but he isn't sure it's possible...

Is there a way of altering a product page so when you click add to basket it puts it into the basket without redirecting the user anywhere? I want the use the simply be able to press add on several products in one go rather than having to wait and go back.

It would be nice if the basket could update on the page so perhaps a refresh would be needed but reloads in the same position.

Can someone advise so I can get my IT chap to make the changes?

    Thanks

    Nick

You can switch to single add to cart button as standard, look at shopping mode set on the section itself.

Hi, thanks for the reply. This option is not suitable for our site since on one page there are lots of products. The customer would have to scroll to the bottom of the page before he would get to the buy button (or wherever you place it).

I was hoping to be able to press, buy on one product then buy on another and so on. The shopping basket is then updated without moving the customer away from the page.

      Is that possible?

Excellent!!! I'll get our IT chap to have a go with that method.

          Thank you

This is another item on the wish list for at least 4 years a simple updating basket without the need for bounce pages would be preferable IMHO

Unfortunately requests get added to our wish list faster than we can development them... :-( We try to focus on the ones that get the most requests; but also taking into account the development time required, the risks involved in tinkering with the associated code, and whether or not there is a workaround.

I have incremented the wish list count for this particular item, but I'm afraid it's still relatively low.

So although it surpresses the bounce it's still not an ideal workaround? If it works where's the problem?

                  Sorry for hijacking the thread.

Bruce, can we have a system which allows customers/developers to add and vote on new ideas for the software - this way, it gives a true picture of what we want, and lets you guys select which features to work on based on true feedback.

Another ecommerce software vendor does this - and by looking at the site and previous 'top rated' suggestions, most were then developed and added to the software.

Seems to be the best suggestion you'll ever see get added to the forum

                    Get's my vote!

I believe the add to cart process needs updating as much as checkout.

I have separately suggested to Bruce that if Actinic wants to understand what customers true needs are, they need to publish a summary of the feature requests and get input on priorities before deciding on release content. The current "wish list" approach is fine for gathering candidate features, but it is bascially a one way communication and give no measure of relative importance to the broad customer base.

This has been suggested more than once, this forum has the option to runs polls (i know i part run vbulliten forum) but i dont see it happening, managing 1000's of polls wont be easy so it has to be thought out, but again you would only get the top fiew wishes shown.

However, i honestly believe that having a work around in the KB actually stops people requesting a feature. If you ask a question then the answer will be given "theres a work around in the kb" so what happens - NO ONE requests it!

So working on the principle of those most requested features are investigated actually has a big flaw if your going to count numbers. this is all MHO

Hi, so what is the problem with this workaround?

Also we are adding a basket summary on each page. Will that refresh each time the buy button is pressed?

Supressing the bounce means that when adding to cart the customer is taken to the shopping cart page but not bnounced back to the product page. You can either change the bounce delay or set it to 0 to stop at the cart page.

For me the main problem with any work around to scripts is the work around has to be reapplied everytime you upgrade. During the life of v9 if you had wading in with patch 01, you would have had to reapply for 02.03 and 04. 05 is promised and probably will not be the last.

Admittedly you dont always have to re-apply but at least you have to check.

This is my biggest beef, Fergus now tries to write every plugin to avoid scripts because of this PITA. I still have a site that uses a number of script hacks, i keep promising to upgrade it but i dont suffer from bugs on it so im leaving it and have started on another project.
