Getting Website Approved by Norton Site Safety

Hi, please forgive me if this has already been covered elsewhere. I have Norton installed on my laptop and notice the green 'ticks' or grey '?' on websites when seaching. I have a 'grey' tick on mine which means that it is 'untested' by Norton. Obviously I don't want this to put customers off and so have started the process of having the site tested. Now, I am not a web whizz and so the '3 simple steps' that they give me fill me with fear

Please, can someone translate the steps for me into 'normal' language as I haven't a clue

1/ Add a publicly viewable file at the root folder of your web site

2a/ Creat a file with the following file name and content:....I can do this bit!!!!

2b/ Add the file to the root folder of your Web Site

2c/ Verify that the file is publicly available at: http://www.example.co.uk/nortonsw##########0.html

after this I THINK I am ok

    Any help greatfully recieved

The root folder is the folder in which you will find the index.html file (your site home page), not to be confused with the one in the 'acatalog' folder though which is also called index.html, however that is the shop home page. To add the file to your root folder, you will need to use an FTP client, actinic cannot do this for you, needs to be done outside of actinic.

Sorry, but I did warn you that I haven't got a clue 'you will need to use an FTP client' - what does this mean?

Can you log on to your server control panel and open the 'File Manager' (or similar name) to view the files/folders on your server? You should be able to do this quite easily if you can get to that point.

FTP Client = Software which allows you to access your server (ie. the computer somewhere in the world that holds all the data of your website) - and allows you to upload/download the data, as well as edit the data. Probably a little too complicated if you're a complete novice to this.
