Problem with contact form generated email address format

I'm not 100% sure when this started but it was definitely pre 9.0.4 upgrade although the 9.0.4 upgrade has added another problem.

Our received contact form emails come in as attached. The email address line is formatted incorrectly making the hyperlink incorrect (as you can see visually)
This has been happening pre 9.0.3 and I was, for the most part, ignoring it but it is a bug of sorts.

However, since 9.0.4, we seem to have a secondary problem. Contact form emails, as they arrive in the inbox, are now, for some reason, showing the SENDER as our sales@ email address and NOT the customers email.
This doesn't actually cause a problem in Outlook as it shows the message as "sent from sales@..." but "ReplyTo customer@whereever etc"
The phones won't reply to the replyto address though, they will only reply to sender and this means that all contact form replies sent from mobile devices (which is OFTEN) are just sent to us!

Was there a change to the way the mailform generates these emails in 9.0.4? There must have been a change somewhere along the line!
I've tried replacing the mailform.pl with the original but it was the same anyway as we only upgraded last week and it had overwritten it anyway.

Anyone else got either of these problems with 9.0.4 (or 9.0.3, for that matter)?

      Curious.

Just noticed this at the bottom of the 904 changes list.
Email sent by the 'Contact Us' form now uses the correct 'From' address. AC9-1977
Now, in 903 and earlier, the 'from' address always DID show the customers address on ALL our machines (outlook, thunderbird, webmail, mobile mail etc)

However, since upgrading to 904, they ALL shows the 'from' address as being sales@domain-etc (ie OUR email address) and this, in turn, is affecting the reply-to process on the mobile units.

      So..what WERE Actinic fixing exactly?
Because, in my eyes, they created a problem rather than fixing one!

Good point - I could of sworn e-mails that came through outlook always had the 'to' address as sales@ourdomain.co.uk, and the from address was always what they had put as their e-mail address. But now...to/from is always sales@ourdomain.co.uk

I did wonder what the fix was supposed to be - as I've looked through Outlook and surely enough - the date we upgraded to 9.0.4 was the day things went wrong.

Wonder if installing 9.0.3 on another machine, copying all of the email perl files onto a memory stick and dropping them in 9.0.4 will fix it...might give it a try some day soon.

It'd help if we knew which scripts had been altered.
I've checked the MailForm.pl and mailscript.pl and both are identical between 853 and 904 so I presume it's neither of these that are causing a problem.
I only picked these out because they had the name 'mail' in them, mind you. Not sure which other files are involved.

OK, I've had a response from support) and kudos to them for the quick reply, I have to say!)

The change has been made to the FROM address within the software.
The problem is that the email sent by the 'Contact Us' form is sent to the merchant from the buyer's email address resulting in a 'Cannot relay' error on most SMTP servers (the 'FROM' email address domain is not in the rcpts list for that server and is rejected as third party mail or spam) .
The 'Contact Us' form did not use the correct file to add the sending address, so it would give the same 'FROM' and 'Reply To' address

This has now been corrected so that the 'To' address is the merchant address, the 'FROM' address is the merchant address and the 'Reply To' address is that of the customer sending the contact form.
OK, so I understand the reasoning for the change however I do think that it looks poor when all the contact form enquiries in your inbox say that they're 'from' yourself rather than from the enquirers email address.
I need to look at the settings on the mobile that is giving us problems to see if I can force it to reply to the 'reply to' email address, rather than the 'from' address as this, to me, is a problem with the software on the phone rather than the email itself.

No mention about the hyperlink problem..but then I didn't focus on that in my original support query as it doesn't happen in all programs.
It does it on one mobile device and in Thunderbird but not on my iphone or in outlook express (which doesn't show a hyperlink at all for the email address!)

Anyway, I guess the main issue is a 'fix' for someone else's problems which has just caused us problems on our HTC Magic (which, unfortunately, is our mail contact form responding device!!) and isn't fixable

hey ho...am off to do an EA Sports workout on my Wii instead of worrying about!

Opening the e-mail and remembering to copy/paste the customers email address is the difficult part using Outlook - perhaps I'll have a look at this by the end of the day and see what settings I can change to make like a little easier
