    9.0.4 crashes when moving sub-sections

    Hi,

I'm using Actinic Business and it crashes with a dmp file when I try move a sub-section from one section into another. I've tried it by highlighting and moving it, holding the shift key & moving it or even with cut & paste. It crashes everytime. Under 9.0.3 it did crash but not everytime.

Please note that in the Cut&Paste process, it actually crashes during the cut process.

I'm going to raise a call with support tomorrow but wanted to know if anyone has come across this issue in 9.0.4.

    thanks
    Nilesh

hmmm just when i thought it had been fixed, no help to you but i managed to copy a complete section from one site, open a new site and paste it.
Sounds more like something is amiss in your databse, possibly a problem when you upgraded.

Do you have another snapshot that you could import onto another machine to test it.

Thanks for the swift reply, Darren.
Like the idea of trying it out on a different machine. I'll give it a shot overnight with a fresh install of 9.0.4 & import the snapshot. Will update tomorrow.

OK - being playing around to see if the upgrade corrupted my Actinic database.

Did the following on a separate machine:

        a. Installed 9.0.4 & restored lastest snapshot - crashes on moving sections.
        b. Restored post upgrade snapshot - same problem as above
        c. Uninstalled 9.0.4 & reinstalled 9.0.3. Restored a PreUpgrade snapshot & all is OK i.e. Section moves OK
        d. Installed 9.0.4 ontop of 9.0.3 & let Actinic Upgrade the DB - problem reoccurs again.

The above leads me to believe its a 9.0.4 problem & not the DB or my initial upgrade. Unfortunately, the upgrade was done on 28May so, regessing back is not an option.

Will raise a call with support & pass the 3 snapshots i.e preUpgrade, PostUpgrade & current. If DB needs de-corruption, then the current snapshot can be used.

          Resolved !!

Raised a call with support and an SQL to modify the database via Access directly was provided which cleared the problem. I've moved chunks of sections around & it hasn't crashed yet (touch wood).

On a side note, I know I've moaned quite a bit about support in the past but on this occasion, I must add that I have been very pleased with the service. The issue was resolved within half an hour of it been raised. So many thanks to Ian Bigg.

          Regards

            V9 crashes

I have a similar problem but mine seems to crash all the time when it feels like it. Sometimes when I first load up V9 and crashes before its even started, or If i do any changes to sections or anything in Html it sometimes crashes on uploading to the site, or even sometimes will crash when I delete a product.
I used to get the crashes mainly on uploading to the site, but Since downloading the the v9.patch for this crashing problem, it seems to be worse.
            Any thoughts?

With that and the product tree being extremely slow to work in the list of products that Ive uploaded new from the Epos system it can be very frustrating..... Just to click on a product takes a minute to think before I can move it to its section and finish setting it up

Simon, if you have a performance problem please email Paul on pmsupport (at) actinic.co.uk as he is running a special performance project. We already have fixes for several of these problems so he may be able to help immediately.

If not, we are also keen to hear, so they can be fixed or work-arounds produced as soon as possible.

                  Hi Criss,
just an update as regards to the slow product tree,
After speaking to Paul he gave me a few pointers to do and to test.
after following the instructions from the following link and closing the preview screen from the top menu option by de-ticking Preview page, this seems to have worked.
Its running at normal speed now and finaly im able to move my products into there sections without waiting 3 minutes per product.
I will test this over the weekend but I think this may have solved the problem.

For anyone reading in here it the link to do first then dont forget to turn off your preview screen when moveing sections or products.

The crash still happens by the way...

If you're unlucky enough to be using custom content categories (a perfectly reasonable thing to do) on fragments or products then don't upgrade to 904. Actinic will still crash when you move sections and there's nothing you can do to the database - even manually (I've asked) to fix it if you want to retain your custom content categories.

Instead, you'll have to suffer the losing of settings on those fragments and products as offered by the bug in 903.

Actinic note that this is a bug in 904 but it will probably be months before they fix it in the next release as they didn't seem particularly concerned.

Angi, have you spoken to support about this since upgrading?

My understanding (and I may be wrong) is that they can provide some SQL to fix the problem once and for all.

                          Hi Chris,

I have spoken to support. The fix doesn't apply to custom content categories. It looks like this was missed. I've asked if there is some manual change I can make to the database but it seems that my only choices are:

                          return to v9.0.3
have all fragments return to their default content category
do not move sections and/or products around until the issue is fixed
If it's fixed in the next release then that's fine but I'm concerned that this is going to be months and months away. It's causing real problems at the moment.

I can confirm that the fix for this issue is scheduled for the next maintenence release. I have asked someone from development to contact you to get a snapshot - then we can make sure that your particular version of the problem is definitely fixed.

Thanks for your confirmation Chris but I'd already been told it was going to be fixed in the next release, I was more concerned about how long the next release would take to come out. Everyone seems a bit vague. Why can't it be fixed separately, surely it's a bug fix (from version 8) that wasn't done properly in the first place?

Support already have a copy of my db but we're a developer so it really needs to be working in all cases of custom content categories - they won't always be the same ones - so it won't help much.
