    Telephone discounts

    Hi,

We would like to be able to apply a 20% discount to telephone orders
Would anyone be able to guide us through settings required to allow this
    We are using V9

    Many thanks

    Two questions

Had a look at your homepage but still no idea who or what Crossreach is, I assume it's a charity but no information on the site

Why would you want to tie up your phones when the whole idea of a web site it to automate the whole selling process

Scottish holy molys selling tartan goods to an unsuspecting public

But to answer the OP's question, I think what you're after is possible on the Discounts and Surcharges settings if you restrict by payment method. You'd have to create a "Telephone Orders" method first. And you'd have to be happy you were PCI compliant in doing this, which is a whole 'nother can of wee beasties.

But I may be wrong. Try it and see?

Crossreach have an Actinic online store.

I partially understand the theory of offering a discount if you pay by phone - it stops customers paying with Paypal! a) You save 2 or 3% in fees and b) if something goes wrong, you don't have to deal with Paypal. Win-Win situation there.

Are you looking for a way to offer X% discounts on phone orders that you process through the Actinic MOTO form (ie. offline order system).

If this is how you intend to run things, I expect you would have to create a Coupon for X% of cart value - and on the MOTO's Miscellaneous tab, select that coupon.

Hmmm... offer 20% discount to save 3% - good logic, plus pay staff to answer the phone

Beware of PCI on taking phone orders

Whats wrong with paypal. i keep getting told there the best PSP in the world

as suggested the discount option limited to payment type is the best option, but remember to untick the show on website part when you have created it

i guess it depends if you think you can gain high sales from talking to your customers. Sometimes you can increase order value by a large amount by helping the customer decide, although 20% is probably more than i would offer to make this work

We contact all customers with a PSP-Pending order within 24 hours unless they have already went back and re-placed the order online/over the phone - 9/10 this converts to a sale.

We also always contact payment pending order customers (usually by phone or otherwise email) and many result in sales.

I prefer internet orders, we've done it differently, we give all registered customers a 10% discount on all orders. This brings a lot of repeat business, plus we don't get many people ordering over the phone, as they prefer to browse the discounted prices online.
Okay, I pulled the pin. Now what?... Wait!...Where are you going?

We have an email template asking if they have changed their mind or if anything went wrong which goes out anything between 30 minutes to 12 hours after the order goes into pending. It also contains a link to paypal so they can pay at anytime as we already have the details required, 9 out of 10 times it works a treat.

                        Who are CrossReach?

CrossReach are actually one of the largest social care providers in Scotland out with local authorities and care for groups such as homeless, substance misuse, mental health, learning disabilities, criminal justice, children's services, older people, counselling and support.
Not as noble as supplying ear plugs but we try to make a difference in people's lives
I had tried to keep the original post as brief as possible but we actually want to apply the discount through our back shop for internal transactions but thought that giving the example of telephone orders would have the same methodology.
Sorry for any confusion that caused.
Many thanks to all who made suggestions, we will give them a try

You should maybe put this statement on your websites homepage as from what I saw there is very little information about what you or Crossreach are or do and without such info being quite prominent your site could come accross to many as a souvenir shop, add some good reasons to support the charity and it may well increase sales and help even more

Apologies for our web site as it is understood that it is cumbersome and does not give focus on the care the organisation provides. Unfortunately resources are limited which is why the web site is not all that it should be. This is now being addressed and a completely new web site will be launched at the end of the summer which will be informative & interactive
