Product options with text input or text area

Hi everyone,

I have looked through the forum and haven't been able to find a solution.

I want to be able to add an option to selected product where the customer can add a custom message to be engraved into a product. The message would be entered into an input field or text area.

This needs to have an additional price. Therefore, I assume I need to use a component and/or attribute. I haven't been able to get this to work.

I would be very grateful for any help and support on this issue.

Have you looked at the "Prompts" option?

Have looked at prompts but not sure if I can affix a price. I want to add engraving as an additional option to my products with an additional price.

Please share your thoughts with me.

Norman at drillpine.biz has an embroidery plug-in which offers similar functionality

The drillpine.biz plugin does exactly what I want. However, it seem expensive for what it is. Is there any alternative solution?

Indeed. Write it yourself and then realise what a naive statement you made previously. Nothing from drillpine is expensive when related to the amount of work it has taken to create these addons, in fact 99% of people say they are incredibly cheap and easy to install. It's literally hours and hours of work to do yourself.
