    Discounts VAT - etc..

Ok, could someone please help me with this ...

I want a discount setup on s group of my products.

Basically once the customer orders 3 or more they will receive £2.50 off per item.

I can see I will be able to set a trigger of 3 to apply a discount, but how do I then apply £2.50 per extra item ? i.e.

    1 Product = £10.00

    Customer buys 2xproduct = £20.00
    customer buys 3xproduct = £30.00 - £7.50 discount (3 x £2.50)
    Customer buys 4xproduct = £40.00 - £10.00 discount (4 x £2.50) and so on ....

Also I am assuming the discount amount will be EX Tax (VAT) which is fair enough, but when displayed on the shopping cart, how do I show the figure including VAT ?

    Thanks

Looks like a straightforward 25% discount, what's the difficulty here?

Have you set the tax rate to show inclusive of VAT?

      Thanks Lee,

Yeah, you could be right ! my brain is fried from the heat maybe

All of my prices are set to show inclusive of VAT.

On the discount line "buy 1 more to get £xx.xx off" is shown as the ex VAT amount.

Hmm, well on the surface that does sound junk, particularly if you have set prices as tax inclusive, as common sense says you'd want the discount amount doing the same. Is online prices set to the same in site options, i can't believe they'd have overlooked this, must be something you're missing, i hope.

I would tell you now what the setting is but I can't log in on my second pc at the moment, just crashes ... but thats another story !!

Once I am able to get to the main PC, I'll check again.

I don't want to start a whole new topic regarding VAT .. but I'm guessing this has been brought up alot, and I'm sure I've seen it

When the shopping cart is displayed, all the prices are shown ex VAT - with a VAT round up at the end (which is what I want for accounts of course) but really I don't want any vat calculations shown to the customer, is this possible ?

Maybe I am missing something blantantly obvious ? I have been running as it is ok for 4 years, but never got round to asking the question...

Sounds like you show your prices inc VAT but your catalog is not set to use inc VAT on the whole. Tax tab in business settings.

Yes, sorry that is the case. If I set "enter prices inclusive of VAT" under business settings tax, will that lose my VAT calculation on the reports, and invoices ?

setting in site options is tax inclusive prices.

Well i can't give you the direct answer as i don't know it, but what i can do is let you know what i'd do to see if i could solve this. I'd set the customer online price to be inclusive only, thus the same as the normal one, if that didn't work i'd test if i switched from simple to advanced mode did anything.

If that didn't work i'd probably moan like a little baby, throw my toys out of the pram and demand to know who TF was overseeing the vat adjustments in V9 cos they dropped a clanger. I'd probably get a nice calm professional email or post telling me where the setting is off actinic then, in which case i'd wipe the egg off my face and go make an omelette.

Thank you, Perfect Respone I will update you once I have done the above. I hope I will end up with an omelette, otherwise I shall be requiring a refund for my V9 upgrade, reinstall version 7, cry for a while while I have to keep using V9 to process previous orders, cry more at night while I think of the 2 months work I have put into upgrading to V9 ... then wake up and have an omelette anyway ... lol

AFAIK, if you want the cart, checkout, etc to show VAT inclusive prices then you need to enter your product prices as tax inclusive. Actinic will still the VAT Summary as a separate line.

If you have a lot of products, the easiest way to adjust existing prices is to export the products, adjust in excel, check for any that didn't round up the way you want, then import the price field back in again.

Ok, doing some testing on another test site, and it seems once you change the VAT to be entered including vat you can do NOTHING with previous orders, i.e. add adjustments, new items etc ...

So looks like I'm stuffed either way

Not sure I'm looking for an answer here, just thinking out loud...

If I pick a date like 1st August, suspend ordering, upload. install v9 on another PC, and then import the current site, as is, including orders (will more than likely have pending and back orders)

I can then use this to process exisiting orders, as long as I don't upload, or download from it.

Then I can export the design, and import it into a fresh site, then adjust the 'VAT entered as' setting to inclusive, refresh and carry on as normal from this machine with the new VAT setup. Is there a way of making the order number start from a certain number ? so I can keep it sequential ?

I guess the other way I could do this, is just license a new site, switch to the old site when processing old orders, and use the new site for new orders ... a bit of a pain for a while, but would eventually mean using the old site less and less until not at all. Except for accounting purposes of course ...

Can anyone see any flaws in my cunning plan ?
