Limiting Number That Can Be Added to Basket by Stock Level

    Hi there,
Is there a guide for how to limit the amount that can be added to the basket based on the stock level, i.e. if only 2 in stock you can't add 3 or more?
    Many thanks

No, you can show a 'warning' message if there is only 2 in stock and the customer attempts to buy 3+.

The only way I can think to get the effect you're looking for is to use Gabe's Actinet suite which converts your store to an online database - or upload your site several times a day after you receive an order which is obviously impractical and almost impossible to do, with some javascript to hide the 'buy' button, or similar.

Might be worth having a chat with Jan @ mole end she was going to add it to a product of hers about 4 or 5 years ago

Not sure if it ever made it though

With actinic you can set this. Unfortunately it isn't automatic, you have to manually set the 'max number orderable' to be the same as the quantity in stock.

There are some 3rd party add ons that can help with this. The best option by far is Richard Morrow's active stock that also prevent multiple orders from exceeding the stock availability. http://activestock.mumstuff.co.uk/blog.html

              Mole End Software

Hi - I would suggest you use the Mole End software - or trial it if possible.

It has saved me a great deal of aggravation over the last year, especially as one of my shops sells a wide range of products that are all kept on low stock levels (many are perishable). People who find something they really like are tempted to buy a lot to 'justify' the delivery price. So almost every order I got had one or more products that were over ordered and meant I had to call customers who didn't want to wait for stock, didn't want a partial refund - or if they did you have to recalculate the postage based on what you can send them...... sound familiar anyone??

It is astounding that Actinic has not dealt with this in the 7 years I have been using their software. You are building a a business not just a website so stock control is essential if you do not want to get a reputation for being unreliable and customers having bad experiences - they just won't come back.

Mole End's software will download your order, strike the stock off that has been sold, and then set the maximum to what is now in stock and upload the site again.

There is still the risk that a customer will order in that period and you will have a problem, but I would say this bit of stoftware killed 99% of my stock problems on that particular site. I'd recommend it (it does a lot more than just stock control but for me thats the key feature).
